so ultimately there needs to be more mineral sunscreens with deeper tints... Idk why it hasn't happened already but skincare companies need to seriously begin to have tinted sunscreens with as much color variations as foundations. I've also heard tinting your own mineral sunscreen mixing in color tints/pigments (i.e. Dermablends multi-use liquid pigments) has been useful too and then you can control the color you want more. And you get the extra protection against pro-pigmenting wavelengths of visible light with the iron oxides in tint/tinted sunscreen.

I'm Indian too, this is so helpful! I am currently trying out the Elta MD UV Physical sunscreen, which is labeled as a "lightly tinted" sunscreen. My skin is a little lighter than Alice but it leaves a cast on me, so I wouldn't recommend this unless you plan to wear makeup over it or are lighter in skin tone! I heard the Elta MD UV Elements (featured in this video) has a more substantial tint than UV Physical, so keep that in mind. The white cast on UV Elements is probably less substantial than UV Physical. I think sunscreen brands need to dip their toes into the cosmetic industry if they can't find a way to make mineral sunscreens transparent on darker skins. The solution might simply be to provide tinted sunscreen in a range of shades to suit everyone.

Ayesha babe the answer is definitely K beauty sunscreens, they are so infinitely better than anything produced in the West in every way and half the price. Some of my favourites are the Biore Aqua UV (particularly for oily skin), Klairs Soft UV, Missha Sun Milk and the Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen. The Neutrogena Oil Free Sunblock is really good too and the Eclat Sunblock from Amazon which is really affordable, although slightly greasy so aimed at drier skin x

I prefer to use chemical sunscreens because they just feel better on my skin. My go-to is Black Girl Sunscreen. It is a bit greasy so oilier skin type may not like the look. I've heard good things about KraveBeauty The Beet Shield even though I've never tried it. As for mineral, I've used biossance (spf 30). It washed me out a bit (which isn't hard since I'm dark skinned with a red undertone). It felt okay. Dr. Dennis Gross (spf 50+) has a mineral sunscreen that didn't completely wash me out and felt a little better than the biossance. It did leave my skin feeling a little itchy but I believe you should fully moisturize your skin before applying mineral sunscreen (I had not that day). I've also seen that Venus Williams the tennis star has a line of sunscreen (spf 30) that I may pick up. The only thing is the Dr. Dennis Gross and the Venus William come with a heftier price tag (both $40+ I believe). Hope this helps someone!

Thanks for the video. Honestly, when I did more research and realized that mineral was always going to have a slight cast because of the zinc and titanium, I stopped caring. I'd rather be protected, than care too much. The other thing I realized is, the more you massage it in and let it sit for a bit, the cast eventually dissipates. Finally, if you wear makeup, you won't even see it. Just make sure its formulated as a makeup primer or that it's wears well under makeup. There are several brands that are great under makeup. Shiseido suncreens are AMAZING. elf brand has a makeup primer that's SPF50! Now it is like pasty, but its a primer. You won't even see it. I'm looking forward to eventually trying Elta MD and Super Goop brand suncreens products.

As a POC, I'm so fucking exhausted of not having any options of affordable physical sunscreens that don't give off a white cast. Been on the hunt for one for a whole year. It's so frustrating that no company has considered darker skin or worked towards making formulas that are inclusive of BIPOC skin. Tinted physical sunscreens also tend to have really drying consistencies and not everyone wants a tinted option.

I’ve heard that since people with darker skin tones can get skin cancer, it usually tends to arise on parts of the body that get little sun, like the bottom of the foot, lower leg, and palms. So do I put sunscreen on those areas? If so, how much SPF? Or do I leave it alone?
@gabriellac.78084 жыл бұрын
LaBeautyologist had a whole thread on this on Twitter but unfortunately her account is locked. From what i remember she said that the sun isn’t usually the culprit for skin cancer in black people. From my own research, BIPOC usually get Acral Lentigious Melanoma, which can occur without UV exposure, so places like the bottom of your feet or in your mouth. On the rest of your body, your natural melanin is already a natural protectant against UV rays (thus why African countries see lower rates of skin cancers than Australia where you have a lot of fair skinned people living below the equator). You should still wear sunscreen though. The best course of action against melanoma is to give yourself full body checks or see a derm once a year and of course there is no such thing as being too proactive, wear sunscreen, seek shade when you can, wear hats, etc. I’m not the expert but that’s what I remember her saying/ what I found on the internet! Hope it helps.

Jasmine Burrell those sound non UV related though .. The problem with darker skintone vs. Skin cancer is 1. People dont get burn easily or believe they cant get skin cancer from uv and 2. Its usually recognized at later stage than other races due to less color contrast
@fruitmonsterfly14 жыл бұрын
I also remember Labeautiologist saying that dark skinned people getting skin cancer (caused by UV damage) is like men getting breast cancer. It can happen, but very unlikely. We can get skin cancer tho, and it tends to be caught much later in dark skinned people so I would definitely still wear sunscreen

1/4 teaspoon isn't really a perfect measurement either. An average face+neck+ears will usually need around 2g of Sunscreen (depending how big/small your face is), how much volume that takes up very often depends on the texture and formulation of the sunscreen. If you have a sunscreen you like, your best bet is to measure those 2g once to see what the volume is, and then you can go with that. o.o

After finding out my favorite (chemical) sunscreen from Purito did not have the protection as state on the product, I started the hunt for another sunscreen. Since some dark skinned dermatologists recommend mineral sunscreen, so I thought I would give it a shot. I tried Versed based upon this video and I was really DISAPPOINTED. After applying my normal morning routine products, it spread ok at first, but then it because difficult to work in my skin evenly. It took about 10 minutes for the white cast to subside, but still left a very slight grayish cast. I don't really think this is affordable - $21 for 1.7 ounces/50 ml. Trying this highly recommended product made me shy away from mineral sunscreens and return to Korean or Japanese chemical sunscreens.

@@SUPERHONEYBUNNY La Roche Posay Invisible Fluid SPF 50 Sans Parfum, Evy Sunscreen mousse, UltraSun Face. Love all of them. Hard to get, you can sometimes score on eBay or a Canadian pharmacy site, but the later often has inflated prices. eBay pricing for some of them seems more in line with actual European prices.

I LOVE the Murad Invisiblur sunscreen. It gives my oily skin a matte finish and there's no grey/blue cast, but the only drawback is that it's pretty pricey.

Love the idea of this video, I wish you could do something like that with European brands for those who don't live in EUA. Thanks 😘

I am experiencing an issue since we started wearing masks all day. I have to keep mine for many hours a day when I commute and go to school, and now my skin is getting crazy! I have always followed a clean, simple skincare routine (day&night, religiously, because I also have PCOS and my skin needs constant care) and I managed to keep acne under control (I usually only experience occasional outbursts when I'm getting close to my period now). But now, I am getting so many pimples on the cheeks&chin, where the skin is covered by the mask, and I don't know what I could do to avoid that. Is it the because of the sweat that gets trapped under the mask? Is it an allergic reaction? Should I wash my face more when I'm outside, or maybe changing the mask more frequently during the day would be enough...? If anyone else has dealt with this and has found a trick, please let me know!
