Hi Dick, I think they work great for “saw logs” but for tops of trees not so much, same as the Perfect Stick. Me personally I am pretty darn accurate when eyeballing 16”. Oh and last year I made a fb “Reels” video of my helper Zach using his Mingo Marker, well it blew up getting 1.7M views. The president (Brandon) of Mingo Market reached out to me to send me one to use in my videos but I turned it down because I can eyeball it, plus I cut more tops then saw logs.

I will say the Mingo marker has definitely been on my radar for measuring. I currently use a homemade perfect stick style device. I guess the one downside i see to it would be having to carry 2 items to measure the wood. The Mingo and the paint to go with it. Which is just another thing to possibly lose in the woods. Hopefully it stays secure in the can.

Hello OGF, speed and ease of operation are always a WIN for me, sure there are times the Mingo will not be the best, or worth the paint it takes to mark the sticks, but for wood you intend to sell, and accuracy is a major concern, it is hard to beat,

Hey Dick, hope all is well buddy! I see both cons for the mingo marker. Having to buy paint and the dots. I saw the video that Jake did about how long a single paint can lasts in the Mingo Marker. I've never used one but thinking if you have less than straight logs the curves would cause the measurements to be off a little as well. From a time perspective though when marking with Accu-Mark or perfect stick the saw is already running and you can transition quick to bucking the logs. I just slip the accumark in my pocket and cut away.

Nice hook to get folks to go back and watch an old video. 🤔 I watch the video previously but I have to admit I had to go back and watch again to see that your concern was having to buy paint. I also did some research and it looks like they suggest that one can of spray paint will last for 5 miles of logs. Assuming 16" cuts, that would be 19,800 marks from a single can of paint. Pretty hard to believe, and like the number of licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, I don't think I'm ever going to know for sure. 🤓

I switch between laser, mingo marker and accu-mark. Mingo marker is a bit fragile and finicky for my liking and the paint can be a bit messy to deal with. Accu-mark gives you the most precise and repeatable measurements.

Buying paint and the ugly paint spot were of concern. I never used a Mingo. but what about plugged spray nozzle, is that ever a problem? I draw a line on my bar at 18" for my personal firewood. Hold saw sideways along log then eye the 18" spot. Usually good for 1" or less error but that's for my stove and firepit. Good video...👍

Good video and demonstration of different measuring tools👍 I alway find it funny when when someone says they can "eyeball" it and be accurate. If it is for personal use, go ahead and do your thing, but if you have paying customers you have to be accurate.
