Excellent review ! Not used the fanatec and own the thrustmaster set as at the time they were the only real budget load cell set. Using half of your brake mod I find them a great set of pedals . You will never get a set of pedals to truly mimick the real thing as you use your other senses to feel what a car is doing. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest equipment and have to apply funds best they can to achieve their own best immersion level. Most race cars have quite a lot of pedal travel anyway to suit heel and toe . At the end of the day we rely on these sort of videos to give us some idea of what we are getting and this nails that perfectly 👍

I don't have proper sim rig so went for TLCM pedals. They are mounted with metal plate to playseat challenge and with your DIY mod it was still a challenge to make them properly fixed. Seeing how stiff fanatec's are, I cannot imagine of using these despite having CSL DD base.

A quick fix for the T-LCM lack of stiffness is to put a couple of soft skateboard bushings in place of the lower spring. This will stiffen up the brake action considerably as you're only using one spring as opposed to two springs in series - the single black spring with bushings is actually 33% stiffer than the 2 red springs in series, and a single red spring with bushings is twice as stiff as 2 red springs in series - I knew my physics lessons would one day be useful. Of course using elastomers instead of springs would be the way to go, and it beggars belief that Thrustmaster didn't include elastomers as an option.
@SimRacingCorner2 жыл бұрын
I think Thrustmaster decided to pick the safe option going with springs as the extra stiffness of elastomers does add another layer of complexity to the end user to deal with keeping the pedals from sliding on the floor.
@slaphead902 жыл бұрын
@@SimRacingCorner That's a good point, but still TM could have included some in addition to the springs with a warning that the pedals would need to be mounted to be able to use them properly. I've got a set of Heusinkveld Sprints on the way and they come with a bunch of additional elastomers, so I'm going to get the Sprints set up to my liking and then experiment with the leftover elastomers on the T-LCM - assuming they'll fit.
@SimRacingCorner2 жыл бұрын
@@slaphead90 I agree, it would have been good if they included elastomers as well. Or even sold them as an upgrade of sorts. Considering how popular third-party mods are for the T-LCM brake, Thrustmaster are missing a trick here.

Nice review. It would have been nice to add a cost comparison so prospective users could help determine value. If the Fanatec are 10-20% better but cost 50% more, then maybe they're not worth the investment?
@SupernovaeTech Жыл бұрын
The review mentions pricing is comparable. Without discounts and ignoring shipping costs, the CSL LC pedals are $/€200 and the T-LCM pedals are $250/€230. Depending where you live the Fanatec pedalset may cost more with shipping than the Thrustmaster set and there could be a promotional price on either set which would impact the price formula. Also keep in mind you can start with the Fanatec 2 pedal set at $/€80 and add the load cell brake for $/€140 later on. Sure you'll spend more over time, but sometimes the investment is enough and you have a viable upgrade path whereas the Thrustmaster isn't as modular.

I bought T-LCM second hand for £100. I replaced springs for elastomers as the vid from your channel, But I didn't use the Skate bushes, I use 4 Grolsch flip top washers and 1 spring instead and now it feels more like a real brake with realistic travel. I think the main difference of both of these is how they compress elastomers/springs, the fanatic is more direct and the T-LCM is more levered allowing for more travel. I like the travel of the T-LCM and not sure if I would like the limited Travel of CSL LC. I also have CSL without a load cell but don't know if its worth the price of the upgrade if I already own T-LCM. what do you think ? Great vid i've subscribed
@SimRacingCorner2 ай бұрын
The CSL LC is a very stiff pedal. It's easily modded, so it's not a huge issue. But I wouldn't say it's worth getting when you already have the T-LCM pedals.

In fact, it depends only on the base itself. If we have СSL DD, then we take fanatek. T300 or the upcoming DD from the trustmaster - TLCM. The pedals are wonderful, both of them.
@SimRacingCorner2 жыл бұрын
On console, then yes, it's a fact of the matter. But on PC it doesn't, both have USB and work standalone. As the upcoming TM DD is PC only, you can run either pedal set.

@@SimRacingCorner I think it's much more convenient to buy a base and pedals from the same manufacturer, right away. And in my country, fanatek is not for sale at all, and ordering separately for the sake of the T300 is too much. I used the CSL pedals for 6 months without any technical issues. It's the first time I've heard of the problems you've highlighted, and no one's dropped comments on any issues on any of my videos. That makes me suspect the problems are isolated rather than widespread.

The T-LCM pedals are the safe bet. I do like the F-GT Lite pedal placement, it looks like you can really push into the brake. As for the CSL pedals, if you're prepared for the idea of potentially modding the elastomers, then it's not a problem that can't be fixed if the stock brake is too stiff.
