Mini 2nd Gen How to fit an Aftermarket Steering Wheel to an R56 R55 One Cooper S JCW

WARNING always take care when handling air bags, ensure battery is disconnected for attempting to remove it.
I purchased my steering wheel and boss from Orranje Performance, its an OMP WRC wheel
I do not accept any responsibility to any dame to you or your car due to you following these instructions, they are for guidance only.
Note unless you get the light coded out or use the resistor supplied with the OMP wheel, you will get an airbag warning light.
A step by step guide on fitting an aftermarket steering wheel and boss
Tools needed include:
16mm socket
Torx screwdriver to release airbag
10mm socket for disconnecting battery
Steering wheel boss
Steering wheel
Wire cutters
Spade connector for horn unless you use one supplied in kit
Flat head screw driver

For anyone that was wondering if this video could help them, I promise you it will. I used it today to install my OMP boss and without this video I would have never known that I had to drill the bottom hole out bigger to make it fit. Thanks again for a great video James :)

Really good clear step by step video, thanks! If you use the resistor or code the airbag warning light will it pass UK MoT with the aftermarket wheel? Or does the factory wheel need to be put back on for the test?

Yes my cars have all passed MOT's with aftermarket steering wheels. As long as you dont have an airbag warning light you are fine

On a permanent basis you can get the airbag light programmed out or you need to fit the resistor type item that OMP provide you, they will provide instructions on how to fit that. You then need to reset the airbag using an air bag light reset tool available cheap on ebay/amazon

I would imagine if you are at the point the light is on, it won’t go off until you have it reset by a proper car reader even if you fit the resistor properly

@@NamaraCore Hi the airbag resistor was supplied with the OMP steering wheel, it came in the box from OMP, I wouldnt want to recommend any others as I dont have any experience using them as I get my cars coded rather than using the resistors. If your steering wheel didn't come with a resistor then you could check on ebay/amazon as there are ones listed but again dont want to recommend specific ones as I have never used them.

Not on mine as I had the light coded out before I fitted the steering wheel. You can go that route or use the resistor they supply with the steering wheel

Thanks for watching. There is no airbag on the aftermarket steering wheel so you don’t reconnect any airbag wires. I show the horn wiring being reattached and explain in the video that I have the air bag warning programmed out so it won’t show a warning light.

Hi thanks for watching, as mentioned in the video my car was already coded to not throw an airbag warning light once removed. You have two options you can also get your car coded by a local mini specialist/dealership or use the resistor supplied with the steering wheel from OMP to trick the car into thinking the airbag is still attached.

So nobody had any problem with your traction control light coming on and then your steering wheel pulling to the passenger side and your airbag light coming on and your brake light coming on

@@tweedbean I had problems because they sold me the wrong adapter apparently I only got half of what I was supposed to get mine doesn't look like yours looks like only the bottom of what you're putting on where did you get your adapter sorry it took so long to get back to you but I never got the reply
