since nothing was actually covered...the bolts holding on the plastic cover are 10mm. 2 are on the outside part of the plastic and the battery lock down is directly in front of the battery. There is a vent hose on the side of the battery that pulls out easily and the terminal wires were also 10mm sockets.

You have to get a special device that is made for BMW/MINI you can get them on-line...

This is so weird and unnecessary! I have to register a battery! I own the countryman s and do all my own work and this was done purposly for more money. Even trying to upgrade to a better radio/nav is expensive. Luckily I love the car so much the pain is worth it. Please keep the vids comming

actually. the battery registration is some kind of protection from BMW to Mini to avoid people replacing it themselves.

Thanks This was really easy on a 2014. The registration was in a different area of the software than yours. Had to show the car shop where it was. They could not fine it and had given up. I said let me see it and found it. They only looked where they thought it was. It wasn't under maintenance.

Was under the engine section. It has a BMS or battery management system like an ebike battery.

Yes, you may also notice your radio screen blinking or going off completely as well as an exclamation point error when you first start the car.

@@missioncapable4658 it will run but the battery's life span will be reduced. The car will think it's the old batt and keep overcharging it.

I replaced a battery on 1911 mini wit anAZ 55Ah series H 7 yrs ago. Didn’t know it needed to be registered. Had it checked recently and looks with alternator ok Just got a new scan toll I just had to disconnect the battery…maybe the computer thinks I put a new one in?

@@stiksandstones there is a workaround, you can buy an OBD scan tool that can reset the battery (they aren't too expensive). Otherwise and ideally, I think the car should be designed with the capability to reset this within the service menu.
