This is how to replace the parking brake cable on a 1st gen MINI Cooper..R50, R53. There are two cables. My left parking brake cable rusted and broke so only one wheel was holding the car with the parking brake engaged, which is not a desirable situation. I am using the Dorman version of the parking brake cable in the video.

Yea I can't stand when they start from the beginning of knowledge and think they have to tell you the entire history of how it was invented, the physics of how it works, and introduce the 17,000 tools invented to fix it before they tell you how to repair it lol

At 3:28 BMW makes a tool that pushes back the cable so it could be reused if needed. Better yet a 12mm 6-point deep socket if placed over the cable end and turned a few degrees, till you feel a little tension, will pop the cable right out.

Thanks for share the video.now I have a question in my mini I press the handle brakes but won’t move anything on caliper area.I means the spring on both side of the car don’t do anything.what do yo thing what could be?

Thanks! it might have been loose from vibrating around since there was no tension from the cable...it's been broken for years

This just happened to me at -10ºC (14ºF). Suspect water ingress in the cable, rust, then it freezes in place when below freezing. Not looking forward to doing this under my carport in the cold.

alternator and timing chain tensioner, then it's done, unless something else decides to break which is likely with this car lol..will have another small update video soon...i changed the pads and rotors too but have to edit that video
