Coming from a CTS-V Wagon, C7 Vette, ATS-V, I decided on a Mini Cooper to get it out of my system. I'm shocked at how much I enjoy the car. It is lowered and tuned and makes a crazy amount of torque for a 2.0L! Great little car.

On a related note, long highway trips were always kind of miserable in the Mini. The car wants to take a corner constantly, so it's fatiguing to hold it straight for long periods of time. You did seem kind of tired of driving in this trip. Long wheelbases and relaxed steering rates are preferred for long highway drives IMO.

I had a 3 cylinder 1.5L mini. Even though it's not an S, the torque off idle was great. It kinda got me addicted to turbos in general. Now I drive a 2019 5.3L Silverado that was from AZ in a U-Haul fleet. Every car I get is completely different from the last one. Since it's a regular cab 2wd, it's light and would do well on the Beans score. But since it was from AZ, it didn't have posi, so I discovered that is a huge problem in Ohio winters, lol. Winter storm coming tonight, so I might be locked in for awhile.

looked like a good time. The R53/R56 cars were the best (new) MINIs imo with the size & performance. This F55/56 gen are just too big and for their price, make you look at bigger cars like the Golf, Corolla Hatch, Civic Hatch, and Mazda3. Yes, MINI is a lifestyle, and you choose to drive a MINI. Did you like the sport seats? What was you MPG on the trip? What other features on the 5-door MCS did you like/dislike. Did you get to use the LED headlights at night? Is it worth stepping up to the Signature & Iconic trims, over the Classic, to get the LED headlights?

yeah, the Rose Bowl is in fact a football stadium. It's where UCLA plays. And my team was in the Rose bowl in 2012 against Wisconsin. My dad, brother and I were there in the stadium cheering on our team (Oregon Ducks) and we won. First time we were rose bowl champs in 95 years!!! yeah, that's right, 95 stinkin years!!! It was sooooo fun. I even remember the final score: 35-28.

I get sleepy on trips so I bring a big can of nuts and munching them helps keep me alert. I also make stops at least every couple hours. If I still feel dangerously un-alert I will get a can of monster drink. It's as good as a couple cups of Joe, and doesn't make you stop for bathroom breaks as much.

The classic 1275 GT was a square nose not a round nose, at least in the UK. I had an Innocenti Cooper S (round nose) back in the day, and a Clubman Estate. Now we have a 3 door Cooper S Hatch, having recently given a leased Paceman Cooper S back.

It's a big difference going from the comfort of my avalanche to a mini.... gawd I had so much back pain during the road trip.... but I also suffered a herniated disc 3 years ago

Give me the old Mini any day. As Mike Brewer (he of "Wheeler Dealers" fame) once said: "I think that every single person in the UK should own a Mini at one time of their life". I had a 1978 Mini 850 back in 1993 and it was the most fun I had on 4 wheels. That 1275GT had the rounded front end. As far as I'm aware they had the Clubman front end. You should check out Project Binky which is a 1980 Mini with Toyota Celica GT4 running gear. I've been to the factory where the BMW MINI is built at Cowley in Oxford in the UK.

You were about an hour from where I used to live in California (Santa Clarita-pasadena) now I live way up in Idaho 😂 California has some of the worst roads I've been on. San Fernando valley and the 5 are TERRIBLE where you'll hit a bump and cry about what it did to the vehicle your in.. and I drive stock suspension trucks and still get concerned about it ripping the oilpan off😂

I'm glad as somebody from the U.K. that you showed genuine Austin Mini's (or Rover Mini) as it ended up,its something of a joke to classic car enthusiasts in the U.K. that BMW bought the Mini name and the Cooper name and stuck them on a car which is a pastiche of Mini styling but in reality is nothing to do with the original car,quickly followed in true German style by progressively more ugly and bloated versions of this pastiche of Mini styling until it doesn't even look remotely like a Mini.

Personally I really enjoyed driving those Mini and on a plus side being 6'2 these cars have such good head room. Never knew until I drove one. There such fun cars and really good for having low Center gravity. However i would never buy one due to the fact I would say a majority of them have such horrible reliability. It's a money pit buying a used.
