I must say I'm getting very upset that no videos have been uploaded lately. With a mini nearly ready for its engine to be build. I have your videos on repeat. Come back Paul 😅

It's really great to see you back and to hear that you had a good holiday. Those spacers used to be a stock BMC spares item, part no:- C-AEG 392, however they looked quite different from yours, they had flanges at each end, like a top hat. Your theory about fitting the rockers off-centre so that the value rotates sounds good, however at special tuning we were taught that it was vital to have the rockers central over the valve stem. All of the works engines were set up like that. Also BMC recommended that you removed some of the metal from the value end and top of the rocker to lighten it and to lightly polish them.. Although it isn't actually part of the cylinder head and therefore not covered by your video I'd like to mention the tappets, they are part of the valve train as well. It was recommended that you lightened them and drilled an extra oil drain hole opposite the original. Also we always selected the tappets by selective assembly from a pile of stock ones, we had lots of them lying around. This was much easier in the time that I'm talking about because all A series engines had removable valve chest covers back then. Hoping to see more of you soon, pack those heads well when you send them off!!

Great lesson Paul. In this only episode I got some very useful ideas for mi minis. I have had several issues with one clutch oil seal which lasts very short time, so the primary gear might be the issue. I will also try to make that tool to get the biggest compression of the clutch itself, with an old primary gear and the torque wrench. And the tip on the none centered rockers is great, I didn’t know. In fact I bought a complete engine which had the rockers bent , understand to push on the center, and I thought it was a good idea, but know I doubt it. Anyway, love your channel, great job, thanks for sharing.

Someone that actually know a ting or two. I like to check the value rotation via strobe/timing light, while running. I check the pad location by bluing or even a Sharpie. To see if pedestal shims are needed.

So what you're saying is if I have a 1275 head in the pile of a dozen A series engines my dad handed down, I should save it. Or is the Cooper S head different than the other cars that used the A series engine, like Sprites and Midgets?

Hi there. What is it the importance of CORE PLUGS ??
@willgrime
@willgrime 11 ай бұрын
Core plugs are used to plug the holes where the sand from the cores which were used to form the voids within a casting is withdrawn. The sand is formed into core shapes with linseed oil, which evaporates during the casting process, and then can be poured out of the casting via core holes. The holes are then plugged with a slightly domed disc, which is hammered flat whereupon it expands, sealing the hole. They have a secondary function in that if the water in a cooling void should freeze, the core plug may pop out and allow the ice to expand without damaging the casting - if you’re lucky. Always use antifreeze: it generally contains a corrosion inhibitor, without which 5he interior galleries of your engine will erode.

On the primary gear do you remove the metal ring near where the oil seal sits and the oil holes are?
@HREIRL
@HREIRL 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, no these primary gears are very early and didn’t have the metal throw out ring. But if it’s fitted I leave it as it greatly helps the seal
