I owned a later model (1979) 1275GT for a few years in the late nineties and early noughties and totally concur with your review. Honestly the most fun car I have ever driven and could put the wind up some modern cars once you threw it into second and it went round corners like it was on rails . I have a memory of whipping around a roundabout with an XR3 driver trying to show off to his girlfriend attempting to keep up until he was on the verge of rolling whilst I just sped off. Of course, once on a straight road, he zoomed past but with a face like thunder. Such a great little car that you don't hear much about nowadays.

My first car was a Clubman with a 1100 ccm motor. I had 100+ rims on it (10x6") ? and a small steering wheel. At some point one of the valves burned,and I had the possibilty to exchange the whole motor with a motor from a Austin Allegro 1100...so I did and it fitted perfect..but the gearbox from the Allegro was for 13" wheels,so there was not big topspeed,but lots of revs and acceleration...didn´t need to downshift for overtaking :D :D

Paul, great work, a fantastic car but GT was always joke. I have a 65 Aussie Cooper S. It is a brilliant car in so many ways, but was never a GT either. Maybe the suspension down under was different but I thought that the Hydrolastic pipes connected on the same side. Dave D

Yeah agree on the Hydrolastic being connected front to back on the same side, at least with Aussie minis but I doubt it was different as I imagine it would increase body roll. You are blessed with beautiful roads in Ireland, they're 3D with endless variety of corners our Australian roads are more 2D and mostly straights... still fun to be had. Aussie LS 1275 and LS are some more refined minis too.

Great video , Cooper S 1275 was different ,with Twin carbs different crank & extra head bolt ,also 76 BHP ; 16 More than the 1275 GT lovely car & nice video , thankyou :-)

I will never get used to seeing a Mini Clubman without external hinges and a 1/4 lite in the door window. So many years of seeing them, that these look almost unfinished. :-P

Obviously not an S but a great car nevertheless, the only thing that lets it down are those dismally dim lights, they definitely need upgrading. It would handle even better with 21A1811 displacer units and it would still look standard.

My best mate used to have a black W reg, (1980??)1275GT with the gold 1275 down the side. Would that be the last of them?? I was amazed how well it pulled in any gear and how comfy it was.

Some friends of a neighbour of mine had one like that back in the 1980s. I was always quite jealous of it, compared to the Fiat 126 I had as a first car back then; almost anything on the road was better than one of those!

Hi, that certainly is a gorgeous GT! Love the colour and also the fact that it's on 10 inch wheels...the Rostyle really suit too. Question...does it have discs or drums up front? I'm thinking discs, because my friend had one in a burgandy shade on 10's, sure it had Cooper 'S discs on? Anyway, great stuff, great vid 😊

@@HREIRL We want to move to Scotland when we retire, house prices are cheaper up there and we both lost everything in our divorce's so we both had to start from scratch so money will be limited. South Ireland has popped up on our radar for cheapness and ruralness so a fellow Mini guy might be moving to a place near you 🤣
