It's incredible how much stuff there is to take off a engine before you can start on the engine. That alone would put me off doing it myself fair play to you for having a go. 👍

Yep that's a standard sump plug mostly seen on French cars peugeot citroen and Renault and as that engine is also in a citroen DS3 that's why. Also remove the diverter valve off the turbo and check the rubber diaphragm for splits/perishing it's common on them

Good too see a breakdown video like this one, glad I’ve only got an N12 unit now after seeing how much is on that. Good work keep it up. 👍

the final tensioner you removed near the water pump is in fact an efficiency tool. it stops water pumping around the system until the engine is at working temperature. then ECU engages the water pump to the serpentine belt to allow flowing coolant around system .
@GeorgeAusters2 жыл бұрын
I think that is only on the N18 as there is no plug on the tensioner for this N14 engine

Great vid and Peugeot have some strange bolts on their engines 😏
@chrisgreen10942 жыл бұрын
Yep like everyone says that’s the standard sump plug. A lot of them are 3/8” square which fits the drive on a 3/8” ratchet or extension so no need for a special tool.
@GeorgeAusters2 жыл бұрын
It’s smaller than 3/8 but bigger than 1/4 which I thought was strange

As this is PSA french made engine in mini it is normal to have a french drain plug. Right socket for this is 8mm square called S-8. Can be found on renault/peugeot/citroen diesel and petrol engines. Same thing is for gearbox drain on many of these.

Sump plug is standard like that ion PSA cars. You have to order the socket for online as most shops don’t stock them. 6mm square I think
@GeorgeAusters2 жыл бұрын
Interesting, definitely bigger than 6mm though as I tried a 1/4 and too small

I think the sump plug is factory, it's been on the last couple of mini's I've owned. First saw it on a Peugeot 306 then a 406. Pretty good to use but worth investing in a tool to take it off.

@@GeorgeAusters also the Tensioner you removed is the weird way mini drive the water pump, its not driven by the belt it is driven by that pully, the tab you were pulling is the tension release system. Yeah weird set up but it's effective... On Reassembly there should be a small heat shield that fits over the turbo oil feed line, if missing it can distort the plastic rocker cover. Be worth getting one. Great video BTW 👍
