Thanks 🙏 I bought ours used and it was keyed 🔑 from driver door to rear panel now I can source a junker same color and replace to get rid of the eye sore

What size bits for the drill do you use?. And what all needs to be pulled off to pull the right rear 1/4 panel?

Sorry only just seen then and most of it a belt sanded the welds and a 8mm spot weld drill bit and I would all the inside out off the quarter panel

I would cover the speaker to avoid the iron filings blocking it and causing distortion

could really use a link to a site to buy the quarter panels; I need both sides for the 07 R52 convertible. I found one single site, and the cost was over $1,000

Do you need to treat the areas where the original spot welds were? Worries about rust corking it’s way from the inside out. I don’t really understand why spot welds wouldn’t be better? If it’s good enough when they manufactured the car why wouldn’t bmw allow both methods as official. Many thanks for the video. It’s going to help me a lot with the repair I’m about to undertake.

Sorry I have not been active but there cleaned the. You have to use a 2x panel bond from mini which help the panel adhesion and protects against corrosion

They are glued and riveted on the same maybe Alittle different to remove

It’s a rivet piercing gun there around 3k to buy

You made it look super easy! Hopefully you can help me answer a couple questions: 1) I seen a couple that they use a backing plate where the quarter panel welds, is that not needed? 2) Are those OEM recommendations public access or only for registered body shops? If no can you advice me where to find them? 3) I have a cheap self riveting tool that works with an impact wrench and is approve by Ford. But it will be able to put them close to the edge only, so it would not put them as high in the wheel weld. It’s that a critical factor? 4) Lastly, how do you know where to put them? The panel don’t look marked and it doesn’t look that you put them in a pattern or specific distance between each other. I know it’s a lot! Thanks in advance! I’ll save this for future reference!

Hey I’ll try my best to answer, 1# no the mini quarter panel dosnt need any plates but you are ment too use a panel glue. 2# the methods you can only get them if your a bodyshop. 3# you need to use self Piercing rivets and the tool that I use is like 3k 4# it’s all told on the paperwork.

It’s not a bmw tool , it came from car o liner if I remember rightly and cost around 4K to buy

Nice video! You said in one of the comments you'd prefer to mig weld it - how does the mini metal compare to older E36 panels? (My only experience in welding "modern" stuff) but I recall their galvanized coating to be particularly deep in the original panels making it a pain to weld

Much appreciated.... been trying to research this repair for the last 6 months since I crashed my r56 racecar, couldnt have come at a better time. Thanks for the video! Not having access to that specific rivet gun assuming I'd be okay just drilling and using a hand rivet gun? Also would you suggest just buying a new rear qtr vs pulling one off of a donor car?

These rivets are designed to be water tight and with 2k glue, if your going to use a 2nd hand quarter you will have to get a mig welder and plug weld the quarter panel on, so it is up too you mate. Hope this helps. Tools needed are spot weld drill bits, belt sanders , panel chisel, hammer weld though primer ( if your welding it in )

What would this roughly cost for labor? How long did it take you start to finish? (Just panel off , panel on - no paint)

It’s around a 8-10 hour job so around , so around 250-300pound todo
