MINI Cooper Transmission Error: What It Means and How to Fix It

Thought it was worth noting that some people have pointed out that it’s usually the little spring in there that gets worn as apposed to the plastic bits.

I am glad I saw your video about the mini shifting problems and I must say that you showing the interior construction of the mini countryman shifter really helps. Thank you for doing that. I really am beginning to feel like I have been ripped-off! Do I really need this constant hassling and haggling over this supposedly high quality car. I am beginning to not think so.

There is another far simpler issue that can also cause this issue to happen. There is a small plastic switch actuated by a metal spring beneath all of those moving parts. That spring is known to break. If the spring breaks it no longer makes contact where it is supposed to, and will throw this same error code. Simply replacing the spring can also fix the issue if the plastic seats for the shifter are not the culprit.

be helpful if you added what year cars this affects. i have a 2020 mini cooper s, and it has the newer style shorter shifter and 7 speed dct not the old 6 speed auto.. are these affected as well?

F series 2014 to 2023.

@@barrypos55 you do know the f series has different shifters right? the one he is installing is from 2019 cars and older. mine has a 7 speed dct not the 8 or 6 speed auto if that matters and if the shifter is the culprit, mine is also different than the one he is installing.

I said in the beginning it was from 2014 to around 2020 as the brand new Countryman Hybrid still comes thing that old 6 speed auto. The picture I showed is of a 2022 countryman with the 6 speed auto, so I should have said 2022.

The dual clutch systems with the shorter shifter often used in newer minis is it affected. You can still find this older style system in new minis though unfortunately.

Hi I changed the tranmisson on this 2017 Mini Countryman still have the error does the tranmisson need to be programmed.

I never coded it and it was gone. Maybe a faulty part? You got the whole transmission changed or just the part I show here?

Have you heard of f60 manual transmissions once in a while popping out of gear? Is there any recall ?

Mini if fixing this problem for free. I got my letter in U.S. 2016 F57. Extended warranty for this issue to 10 year 120 K for miles. Took 3 days no charge.

I just ordered this part as you recommended. I have a 2016 S convertible F57. I ordered the part new from China $229 US. Part stated it fits F57 my vehicle also has where I can move the shifter to the left and manually shift gears. Did I order the correct part. Thank you

Unfortunately as it’s an actual part that is broken, it would not fix the issue and you would find the car rolling off into the sunset when you put it in park. Hopefully I showed clearly what part fails when I took apart the gears linkage itself.

Almost 70% of them are caused by spring breakage. You can check if yours is also caused by breakage.@@carcreationsyt

My 2019 mini countryman all of a sudden would not go into park as I tried to put it into park when I drove to the store, and was about to get out of the car and go shopping. So I just put on the parking brake, left it in neutral, turned off the engine and got out of the car. As soon as I did, the horn started sounding, as if I should have known better than to park the car in neutral, with the parking brake on. I am now pissed right off, so I get back into the car, and drive home. I started by unhooking the ground cable to the battery and tried to see what was going on. So, no matter what I do, I can not get the transmission to go into park. I am now forced to hookup the ground cable every time I want to drive it. Only a couple of times so far, since this just happened a day ago. It is worth noting here as well that the car does start in neutral after the ground to the battery is hooked back up. Also worth noting that I have been so careful to never abuse the car in any way, since it was sold to me for 33 thousand dollars, and that was a lot of money to me. Any ideas what is wrong might be helpful, as I am still trying to figure out what is wrong with kit.

i have a 2017 cooper jcw with the aisin 8speed gearbox got 11064 miles and gearbox slips after 5-10min driving gear changes are rubbish mini/bmw want 7thousand for new gearbox

Not a huge deal. It’s just that the car has a greater chance of rolling the longer you go. I went for a year with no issues though.
