Do not pretend you are ever satisfied. Some folks carry a knife even if they have a .44 Magnum. We are in an ammo shortage because those who have a 1000 rounds for each of 10 weapons will want 2000 rounds when there is a shortage. The fact is, both likely failed the minimum requirements of the FBI for penetration and expansion, but using 4 layers of denim are less likely to improve performance. Personally, if a .22LR can penetrate skull and medulla oblongata, I am a happy camper. Do I carry just one firearm? No. Do I have only ones with more power than a .40 S&W? No. Do I only carry ones with less power than a 9mm? No. Would I like to have 2000 rounds of high performance ammo which meet FBI specs for all my sidearms, rifles, and shotguns? Yes. Would I like a green laser which can burn a match at 2000 yards to sight my firearms? Yes.

I'm ok with the 22lr as a carry weapon. 4-5 round back to back will stop you at close range. Pop pop pop pop
@JohnLloydScharf4 жыл бұрын
In a revolver, it is only as powerful as a .22 long in a rifle, but in most shootings, 3 hits is lethal and one hit ends the fight. Carry an 8 round revolver so you can practice at any range and still remain loaded at the end of a gunfight, statistically. I have only been in street fights and none of them with more than two attackers at a time. When I was being kicked in the gut and kidneys at the same time by two grunt PFCs, I would have appreciated even a 16 oz hammer with 86 ft/lbs and any .22LR beats that. It is hard to stand when you've been sucker punched while a jarhead stood on your foot; destroying ligaments in your ankle. I ended up six weeks in a cast on an aircraft carrier with 90% humidity and 90 degrees at the coolest in the middle of the Gulf of Tonkin. I still worked at least 12 hours a day. The next time I go to a hospital, someone is going to jail or the morgue. I am too old for fighting.

Some other comments here are speculating that's 'cause the first one tumbled. But the second one didn't, so it shows none of that cavity left by the first one. Seems to evoke what I've heard of the early tests when they were coming up with 5.56x45 (derived from .223). Tumbling caused impressive wound effect, but I never understood how that was supposed to be a valuable characteristic, if it wasn't at all consistent/reliable. Proper expansion of these hollow-points would be the ideal. But we're not getting any of that here (surely not even on that first WMR shot, 'cause if it had expanded appreciably, it shouldn't have penetrated out the back of the block).

The .22 mag tumbled, which would explain the wound channel. I saw the exact same thing in another review. I recommend you try CCI Velocitors in .22 LR. It's an intermediate round nestled between the mini-mag and the stinger. It actually does better than the stingers velocity wise out of shorter barrels. The stingers seem more optimized for longer barrels.

Great video like always. The 22 WMR track shows a classic yawing artifact - it yawed, it likely deformed little if at all. A test of specific short barrel loads would be more meaningful. I know the difficulties with this at the moment. I would suggest 10 feet as a maximum distance for these calibers. In any case, a great video. Understated & informative.

This is a good test. It would be interesting to have shot each out of a rifle as well to compare velocity and expansion... my guess is that the higher velocity would allow both to expand and penetration would be shortened. Tnoutdoors9 has shot minimags into gelatin and they expanded nicely... out of a 1022 rifle but not at all out of a pistol. I've never seen a 22mag test into gelatin from a rifle.

If you continue testing the differences between these two pistols. A good comparison to see; would be trying Stingers compared to V-Max 22 WMR poly tip ammo. I am completely sure the V-Max will expand and stay in the gel. I also think the Stingers have the best chance of expanding too. Stingers shoot great to 50-yards and the accuracy at 100-yards is not as good as high velocity 40-grain bullets. Might not want to use them in your target rifle; because of the longer case used on Stingers. They work fine in a revolver; at least they did in mine. Every 22 magnum ammo that uses 30 grain jacketed bullets shoot better than the standard lead 40 grain bullets will. I believe by having both revolvers enables practicing with the 22 long rifle and carrying the magnum for serious use if you choose.

@@buffalosoutdoors LOL thanks! It’s already 18 degrees out, so the 12-16” of this storm should be fun. I can feel the lower back pain from all this shoveling starting ahead of time 😅

I really appreciate your videos. Rim fire ballistics isn't covered that much by other channels. Keep testing more 22 lr ammo. If you ever find it, I'd like to see how the CCI subsonic segmenting hollow points in 22 lr do out of a pistol vs rifle and what the gel block is like.

That is a great video idea. I will take note and try to get it done.

I’ve got a little NAA Black Widow in .22 mag that goes with me in my pocket during these hot Texas summers. I never feel under-armed!

I realize it might be hard to find right now, but CCI makes a soft point MaxiMag and I would be interested in seeing what it does out of that 3" barrel.

Wow, those Maxi Mags were super consistent in FPS.

Great video as usual sir. I’m trying to find me one of these to teach the kids about shooting revolvers and they aren’t to be found anywhere

Outside of your test, those revolvers look slick and well made. Season’s greetings to you and your family.
@buffalosoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Season's greetings my friend! They are well made revolvers. Ruger got these right, I do have a couple of complaints but they are minor. I wish they had given us a full length ejector rod on the .22 magnum. That's one of the reasons I like a 3" barrel so much, most times you get a full length ejector rod.

I love those! I wish I could find a 3" barrel one around me, all the ones I have seen are snubbies, and the prices are going up and up! Like $450-600 I have seen in some stores which I think is crazy! I think I paid $400 for my 22 win mag snubby with a holster and speed loader and speed loader block. That is some very clear Gel! makes for a great video!
@buffalosoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Prices are all over the place here. Some of my local shops have temporarily closed until they can get some inventory. The gun racks are empty and so are the ammo shelves. It's as crazy as I've ever seen it.
@crankygunreviews4 жыл бұрын
@@buffalosoutdoors most of the shops here have guns, but no ammo. I’ve had to buy some online for 3x the cost- I’ve cut way back on shooting. Plus it’s super cold here, and it’s hunting season so my club is closed for December except sundays.

Good follow up video Buffalo!! Yes the .22 WMR WILL do a lot of damage when hitting bone and flesh. Even out of a 3" revolver. If you are trying to stop an attacker you may have to empty the revolver, but that guy will not have a good day!!
