@@SimonMorelguitar hoping to try a Maton S60 & Mini Maton EM6 over the New Year. They represent the top of my budget (over it actually shhhh) Do you have any thoughts on Qld Maple they use Vs Blackwood ?

@@jgsheehan8810 the mini Maton I bought is the Diesel model. I'm not sure it came in anything but Tasmanian Blackwood when I bought it. I don't have any insight on woods tbh. Budget wise it's also worth having a look at Taylor 214. I think that is a great guitar

I did notice that the newer mini's have a different bridge saddle that should mean better intonation! Also have a AP5 Pro system.

Hey there, thanks for watching - yes this is quite an old one now. I've never played a newer one, the new AP5 Pro pickup system must be amazing as the AP5 in this model is fantastic already!! All the best, Simon

Thanks much for your great review. I perform sitting down. Since this is a small bodied-guitar, are there any issues with it “wanting” so slip off of your lap whilst playing it? Also, I’ve been “cursed” with small hands. I’m assuming the nut width and neck diameter is a bit smaller making it more ergonomic for us smaller handed chaps?
@SimonMorelguitar Жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for watching. It is a great sounding guitar all round. Re the size, it's still big enough to handle easily. The smaller scale will suit your hands too. I've just borrowed a Taylor GS Mini from a friend of mine. I'll put up a video in coming weeks, soon subscribe and click the bell for a notification of when it's up. All the best, Simon

@@SimonMorelguitar true. Over the last 20 years I’ve had over TWO HUNDRED guitars 🙈 many Taylor’s, martins, Santa Cruz, Collings etc and all the top electric makers, fender master built, Tom Anderson, Patrick James eggle, duesenberg, music man etc... the list is endless. I particularly like the mini maton having heard the plugged in sound with individual Piezo son each string make all the difference. A guy on KZbin Carl Wockner gets fantastic natural sound out of it, check him out. Current favourite acoustic a £1000 Furch. And a Patrick James Eggle “Oz” telecaster. Furch guitars are stunning value.

Great review. Love mine but the intonation is iffy! Even with new strings. Any suggestions? Cannot see how to adjust the truss rod - cannot even see where it is! I’m thinking only option might be to lower action via sanding the bridge down a fraction. I really want to love this guitar…..thx
@SimonMorelguitar Жыл бұрын
Hi IP, thanks for the note. Sorry to hear you are having intonation problems. I use elixir 11-52 and have had my guitar tech set it up for that gauge. Where are you? If you are in Sydney or Melbourne I've got some good recommendations. Feel free to get in touch with me via my website. Details are in the description of this video. Cheers Simon

@Simon Morel thx Simon. Based in UK but thx for offer. I cannot see the truss rod on my mini to make any adjustments. Nothing obvious looking through sound hole and no access at headstock - it's a mystery! I'm thinking of sanding down bridge tj lower action and hoping this might help with intonation. Not sure what else i can try? Cheers Ian

OMG you're so small. Lmao. Great review Simon. I did the same thing you did last year. Bought the Taylor GS mini koa specifically for gigs. Unfortunately, covid hit and it's done a whopping one gig. The mini Maton sounds great. Enjoyed the deep dive. Tasmanian blackwood. Sounds so much more exotic than Koa. BTW, time for another riff off soon, dont you think? Cheers! -Mark
