You do such beautiful work and finesse of every piece I hope one day I'll be able to complete something closer to your standard than I'm capable of now. Thanks for the common sense advice of drilling the smaller hole first and removing the unneeded bit from the area after its use... If I had done that last week I would not have ended up loading the wrong drill and getting an oversize hole. I will try to make this a habit... to avoid loading the wrong drill bit.

You take the little baggie, and then put that into a bigger baggie with a bunch of other stuff in little baggies, then you put that into a box, which goes into another box, which you mail to yourself and then when it goes to the wrong house, they smash everything flat with a power hammer.

It's really nice hearing a reference to Hunky Dory. When I was very small, 60-odd years ago, my dad would read to me about Hunky Dory. I thought he was only an English thing, but perhaps not so? Thanks again, Joe.
@ikkentonda
@ikkentonda Ай бұрын
EVERYTHING is hunky dory after watching a Joe Pie video! I thought Hunky Dory was a purely American expression, though. I learned it from my dad who learned it from his dad in Kentucky at the start of the 20th century. The etymology is unclear, but I've seen references to the Dutch "honk" (home/base) and even Japanese. One site suggests a bastardization of the Japanese 本町通り (honchou doori -- the main town street, which American sailors have called the "honch" for over a century) but my bet's on the Dutch. What or who was Hunky Dory in England?!
@MrPossumeyes
@MrPossumeyes Ай бұрын
@@ikkentonda Hunk Dory was a dormouse (if I remember right) with a really long tail that he didn't know what it was for. One day he was out and about with a friend - and they went boating in a walnut shell or a peapod or something. At some point Hunky Dory's friend went overboard! And a big pike took a hungry interest! Luckily HD's tail was hanging over the side into the water and his buddy was able to grab on and get back aboard safely. That was why he had such a long tail, not just to cover his nose while he hibernated A lovely and beautifully illustrated childrens book published some time in the '50s I guess. It seemed very English to me as a small child. And I always think of my dad when I hear or read the expression. Cheers to you for your background information. Oh, and I'm in NZ, from English (mostly) descent...
@joepie221

Interesting to hear the stories guys, thanks. In my world, when something is hunky dory, it has always meant " it's calm and fine"
@ikkentonda

Yup, I learned it as meaning “A-okay” or “all is right with the world”. I saw a Japanese blog where someone misheard it as 本気どおり(honki doori - earnestness/seriousness continuation? Not really a word). I really think it’s an old, purely American expression, though. First I’ve heard of Hunk Dory the dormouse!

Another fine video, Mr. Pie. A couple of things I might suggest: I think calling out both imperial and metric dimensions tends to clutter the video a bit. Just my opinion, as I'm an imperial guy but I have no problem watching other creator's vids that are purely in metric. Also, I would love to see a video on what you use for spindle tooling. We've seen so many great setups on the table with your jigs, clamps, rotary tables, and fixture plates, but I don't recall anything about the spindle. It would be cool to see how you hold your drills, end mills, fly cutters, etc. Thanks for all the great content so far and keep up the good work!
