Can confirm, it definitely helps reduce the tick. It'll never go away fully, but it is definitely noticeable driving next to barriers and such. For those looking, I got mine at Lowe's in the hardware section and in the "specialty washers" bin. It takes some looking, but they are there... And k, can you give a rough torque spec for tightening the bolt? I just want the best bang for my 3 bucks.

Haha nice! this one is more based on the deformation of the rubber. You gotta isolate the vsv enough without over compressing the rubber around it. Rubber has different deformation at certain temps, so hand tight and loctite should be sufficient. It's not a critical engineering part

I have a 2007 Pre Runner with the smaller engine. I just started noticing this annoying clicking sound. At first, I thought one of my tires had picked up nail because the clicking sequence corresponded with one revolution of my tire while driving down the road. Checked all my tires and found nothing. Besides that, I could still hear the clicking when I pulled into my carport. Reving the engine would speed up the clicking to correspond with the RPMs. I then thought it might be the bearings going bad again on my tensioner pulley. Changed that out, still clicking. Oil levels is aways good on my truck so that's out too. Another thing I noticed is that my engine had to warm up before the clicking started so, I popped opened the hood as soon as I got home one day to try to find the source but it's nearly impossible to determine. I did notice that there was a similar clicking coming from the exact location you pointed out in your video. It's hard to differentiate due to all the other normal engine noises coming from the engine. I guess I'll have to break down and try your anti-click-hack. I know this is an old video and I'm not likely to ever get a reply but, since adding rubber washers takes up thread space on the bolt, would it be advisable to replace the OEM bolt with a slightly longer bolt?

My 06 Tacoma has a rumble coming from the engine compartment and appears to be the engine air filter. When I take it off it stops. We need a video on molding the plastic cover to stop it from rumbling! Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work!

Instead of buying rubber washer I used my stock floor mats and cut out rubber washers and it works perfectly fine

i have the same engine in my 08’ 4runner, the ticking drives me mad when i’m next to a wall and it’s amplified(drive-thrus for example). i’ll definitely be trying this fix soon, i’ll let you know how it turns out!

@@conlanmcgregor7621 i actually just took it into the shop the other day, mechanic said the spark plugs were ancient, i changed all of them 3 years ago but i assume that was the reason, hopefully it sounds smooth when i pick it up

I wish you would have shown us what the sound was before and after so I can know if this is what I am hearing on my 4 cylinder. It is making a sound when accelerating that is hard to describe. It's like a "gurgling, ticking" noise. Not sure if it is what you are talking about. Of course since it is a new 2020 model, the dealership says they don't hear it. It drives me crazy!

It can be a few reasons: Pulleys may be worn and add to the cyclic noise, you can check on them (I have a video on this channel on replacing them) You may have an exhaust leak - check the headers and all the mating sections of the mid pipe and muffler Your muffler may need to be changed out

I'm not too familiar w the 3rd gen. what kind of squeaking are you hearing? it may be the belt and idler pulley if the sound is rythmic

Does this sound different from piston slap and does the v6 have it? I dont think I've ever heard this rattling. I have a 2.7 that is slap happy until a few miles when below 40f. In the summer it doesn't make this sound, but its been going on for about 100k miles.

There are a lot of ticking noise from the engine, but this noise is separate from the piston slap. This motor is a v6 btw

@@KFloTacoma Yep. Injectors, buckets and cams and chains, and that slappity slap slap start on a cold day but this aint no 22re either. You'd think they could make a noiseless engine by now. It can only be heard with no load and if I press the pedal 25% it goes away. I wonder if its that 5w20 cooking oil we're told to use in the motor. The only thing I've had to replace is water pump...twice. You've got that 4.0, which is best motor. I helped my brother select a new Taco a couple months ago and test drove the 3.5 which is their new everything bagel platform and while it was ok, felt it was a not "truck" enough so he got a '15 4x4 with O/R pkg in white, just like the one you have. Neither one of our trucks compare to the build quality of dad's '94 v6. Every couple of weeks I scan around for a 09 X-Runner (last year with LSD before they went open) that didn't split the bed due to Mr. Rusty Frame. One day, maybe I'll find it. Dunno why nobody can make a reliable, affordable, manual _fun_ truck and Toyota had the last one so far. Its a market segment we've lost thanks to lazy American drivers that feel its safe to text while swerving down the road.

Mine is the same. 2012 2.7L. Slaps like mad in winter unless I use the block heater. It gets down to -35C where I'm at, so a block heater is a must! I also have a higher pitched tapping/ticking I can hear starting just above idle, and disappears by 1,500 rpm. I'm at 70,000 miles and it's been always been there. No changes one way or another.
