@CanadianGearhead you need "CAN$" Next to your dollar sign. Don't fix it if you don't want to I don't care. You'll lose customers because nobody in canada can afford a t shirt Trudough has made the cost of living so high. But i'm telling you The assumption when you just see a dollar sign only is that it is going to be USD. It's the world's reserve currency and I didn't make it that way , so don't blame me. You should learn from your mistakes instead of attacking your would be customers.

Ok, I had a 1998 Tacoma base 4cyl. single cab with a manual trans, crank windows, and bench seat (brown tweed) and it was my daily driver for many years. Never a real problem except the starter burning out. When I sold it, it has 157K (US miles). I presently own a 2012 Taco white base with a manual trans, crank windows, and bench seat (gray fabric) as my daily driver. Presently it has 156K miles and so far, never a problem. Since my home life is simple, my single cab fits the bill perfectly and able to keep my 6ft bed. Gas run roughly 25mpg in the city 27 mpg highway. Since live in FL, there is still NO rust and no need to 4wd. Keeping the white taco as long as I can. Great to know both truck used a REAL key; less is more.

I am a professional auto mechanic. For the past 27 years I have made a good living fixing complicated and often compound problems. Every day I work on and drive other people's trucks. My daily is a green 2009 Tacoma single cab 2wd base model, with some features. It has 190k miles on it and still doesn't leak anything. It has about 3 moving parts. It is the last Great Generation of Toyota trucks. Everything newer has more points of failure than the space shuttle. Twice a month it pulls a teardrop trailer down the highway at 70mph @ 18mpg, for hundreds of miles, even with the A/C cranked and loaded with a weekends worth of camping stuff. What a great truck.

I bought a 2022 TRD Off Road almost two years ago. I've been in a lot of rental cars with modern features and whatnot, but I never really cared about them. You're 1000% right. Old **is** gold. I was actually looking to order a '22 Bronco 2dr but didn't want to wait 2 years for Ford to build it and the 6cyl ecoboosts were blowing up for some owners. The engine and the long wait time pushed me away so I decided to go for a 4Runner. The dealership that my family buys from all the time only had 4 allocations and the only TRD OR was sold already and they had no idea when the next TRD OR would come in so I got my Tacoma. From putting down a deposit to build and delivery, it was 28 days which was a lot quicker than most people on Tacomaworld who were waiting for theirs. The 3.5L is seriously lacking in low end power but I'm gonna get the OTT tune soonish to hopefully improve the stupid tuning Toyota did for this engine/trans combo. I had 4 people come up to me asking to sell my truck to them in the first year I owned it, lol. I don't really do "truck stuff", I just wanted an off roader hence the Bronco and 4Runner. I love this thing despite being slow as molasses, it just looks so damn nice with a 2" lift and 33" tires.

Having owned a 1st gen Pre-Runner, 2nd gen 4.0L Double Cab, and now a built out 3rd gen TRD Off-road long bed. I would say the 2 gen was better in reliability and drivability… I prefer the 4.0L. If the 2nd gen broke I was asking for it and at fault. The 3rd gen just has problems that arise from no where. My first truck was a pre-Tacoma 2wd and that thing took the biggest beating out of all of them and gave me near zero problems. Toyota….don’t make ‘em like they used to.

I love my ‘09 Tacoma! It’s an access cab, 4 cylinder, 5-speed, so it was more affordable when I got it and isn’t too bad on gas! I added a few things here and there to make it look cool, but not outlandish (yet😂). Upgrading the head unit was definitely a nice modernizing touch!

Agree!!! You don’t need brand new super trd pro mall crawler edition for 90% of off road trails out there. I have 5th gen 4Runner SR5 and that car has all those old school features that are bullet proof.

When I was buying a truck, I test drove a 2010 Tacoma and a 2003 Tacoma. They were the same price exactly. I just didn’t like the 2010 as much as the 03. It felt too big. I ended up going with the 03. The gearbox felt better too. It shifted smoother and the clutch felt better. And I really wanted the manual transfer case.

I have a 2013 TX Baja. Bought it new. It is the best vehicle of any kind I've ever owned. 118k miles on it. I usually try to replace my rig every 10 years, but that was before I owned a Tacoma. Earlier this year, I made a decision to keep it and upgrade it. I just updated the suspension all around and went with an adaptive suspension control system, which is a real game changer. I've updated the headlights, taillights and put on new steel bumpers. On the list are a new head unit and some additional lighting. All these upgrades are/will be a fraction of the cost of a new, comparable Taco or something equivalent, so I am going to try to keep it another 10 years before I think about something else.

I Totally agree. The 2nd gen tacoma Is a perfect balance between cost, comfort and reliability. I own an 06 v6 6spd and an 08 v6 auto and I really couldn't ask for better small/mid sized trucks for under 10k. Ive got a feeling that there gonna hold there value extremely well if not go up in value in the near future.

Now n days im loving my 4 door sr5 sport. Such a great pickup. The power of a 4 banger and the mpg of a v8. lol love it!!! I took time and got the pickup I wanted I needed the 4.0 it’s just the best motor Iv ever had. I wish I got the long bed but all and all I am proud to own it.

This video is spot on. I searched for a 2nd Gen V6 for over two years. I was about to give up hope of finding one in good condition that wasn't way over-priced. Finally found 2015 SR5 access cab in great condition with 33K miles at a fair price from private owner. This was back in 2017 and I'm still loving it today. I plan on keeping my truck indefinitely (I cannot justify the cost of a new truck). Plus, as you mentioned, I love the simplicity. You don't have to be a software engineer to work on the 2nd Gen. Hopefully, I won't have a frame rust issue, living here in Northeast US. I had the frame treated by the dealer at zero cost and so far, no noticeable rust.

Thanks for the video! I'm learning so much about these incredible trucks!! 5 days ago I found a unicorn... rust free 05 6 speed manual TRD Off-Road with an ARE canopy. 236,000 miles total. Less than 7,000 miles on brand new clutch and transmission, less than 1,000 miles on 3rd gen rims and summer tires, less than 400 miles on winter tires, no leaks on the engine, runs and idles beautifully. I bought it and I love it already. Only thing I'd want different is a 6' long bed with canopy.

Totally agree but I went with a 3rd gen just because people want too much for a 2nd gen. I specifically ordered a Trail Edition for its simplicity. Key to start, no 360 Cam and Parking sensors. Comes with Diff lock and bigger and stronger rear end. 2 Tacomas and 1 Tundra all with push button starts got stolen in my street within a week.

I Totally agree with you. I’m reluctantly selling my beloved 2002 2.7L Tacoma (now at 150k miles and literally runs like new,.)because I need some extra towing power. I can’t wait to take possession of my new (to me) 2013 6cyl access cab (which I prefer because I like the 6’bed..) tastefully/professionally upgraded by a former owner with great heated leather seats. I just saw a 2025 bright orange Tacoma at the dealership with a $65k price tag.. and thought….why? Excited to be entering The Second Generation…all I will need for many, Many more years. Hell at 119k miles she’s just barely broken in!! Your comments made my day. Thanks for a really well done, thoughtful video!

I bought a 3rd gen 5spd manual, it was the only one available in the state at the time.Crusing around the dealership I loved it.But the next couple weeks of driving to work in traffic was uncomfortable. The main reason was the gears are very low you would shift 3 times b4 crossing the intersection unlike a 1984 4spd Toyota I had, also you have to push the clutch in so far to engage it you need to practically sit under the dash to accomplish this and I'm 5'11" , so never could get the right seat position.

Almost 200k Miles on my 2013 SR5 Prerunner double cab. Bought it new for under $27k. Still solid as the day I bought it. When I bought it, I was in S. Florida, and had little to no need for 4WD, but now that I've retired to TN, I wish it was a 4x4 with a very slight lift. My truck has the limited slip diff, and a locker would be nice, but I don't really need it. I did install onboard air (with REALLY loud horns), so I can air up & down if needed. The original 245's were long since replaced with 265 Toyo Open Country II (and then III) A/T tires, which are great.

I have found a simple joy in the simplicity of the layout of these trucks. Could just be that I'm used to it by now, but everything just works. Love having a small screen in it, and physical knobs and switches. Also, the cheap plastic interior is absolutely perfect for my usage. Allows me to not have to worry too much about dinging up the interior. Nothing quite like the freedom of folding the seats down, and just tossing some gear in the back
