No need to drain AC, just shove the coil aside, pipes are flexible; No need to disconnect the alternator, just let it hang and rest on a raised surface; no need to remove the throttle body nor the plastic air intake just remove the 2 bolts holding the throttle body and push the assembly aside a bit; Front takes 145 ml of oil not 140 ml; If the rear has no oil left that means problem with the seal behind the PTO gear which has hardened with oil being sucked into the rotor pack. That's why it is necessary to take the water-pump off, investigate and replace that seal and THAT is called servicing; the o-ring of the water pump flange needs to be replaced as well, it's a known source of coolant leakage; Non-monetarised tip for the dipstick housing: There's another groove that can accommodate a second o-ring. If fitted no need to tart it with silicon, it will be oil tight, no worries. Funny piece of British counterintuitive acting - no wonder why UK automotive industry has simply disappeared

Well I'm from America, and service these for a living. I discharge and remove the entire front clip with condenser. Bending pipes or crimping the hoses is ghetto and unprofessional. Plus you don't want to subject almost 2 decease old HVAC pipes to that abuse. Same goes for the alternator, leaving it hanging from the wiring or similar is ghetto and can damage said wiring. What does removing a nut and connector cost you? 3 seconds? No customer would tolerate that nor should they tolerate that over here. The intake manifold and subsequent piping is removed simply for cleaning, and to refresh all the seals and o-rings. As well as subsequent coolant hoses which are probably brittle, and failure prone by this point. Again age/common sense. The Eaton is completely disassembled, and all seals and oil replaced. The water pump and knock sensor is replaced for preventive maintenance as well as the coolant flange. You are already in there, why not? Same goes for the o-ring on the dipstick tube. Basically any seal or gasket is replaced no exceptions. That's the American way. Probably why our auto industry is still kick a century + later. ✌🏽

First, this is a diy video, so the way he was doing it was in respect of someone doing it for themselves, not from a picky technicians point of view where every seal and gasket must be replaced because they said so because they read something on a forum...I say this as a technician and a cooper s owner. The only second I have is an experience thing in that there is two bleed screws for the coolant, the one pointed out and a smaller 8mm by the thermostat. Other than that, a good job for a diy charger service. P.s being picky over 5ml of oil on a charger is like arguing that you had your car serviced and the oil isn't on max. There is always a tolerance. Just like your car oil should be between min and max, not on max.

You are 100% correct. There is enough flex in the lines to simply rotate the a/c condenser about 80° to move it out of the way and support it there. I use an old broom handle to hold it up. I’ve done it this way three times on my ‘02 Cooper S and the Air-con still has its original charge!

If there wasnt any oil in one of the sides, wouldnt that be a huge cause for concern? In my experience the oil leaked out via one of the seals and it gets vacuumed out. Wouldnt just adding more oil be pointless if it's just going to get sucked out again?

very good point. its called the pto gear chamber. where it houses the pto gears that drive the water pump. many common failures of the pto gears running dry with no oil and wont drive the water pump and causing car to overheat. he should have inspected the pto gears or at least check backslash. and then reseal the champer with some gasket maker.

@Myrrh Curie As in Aircon compressor? Unless he said it was done assume it wasn't. When these came out apparently MINI said the oil was there for the lifetime of the car - then they said 100k - but 40k seems to be a more likely/reasonable number based on what I have heard and what I have seen - recently I replaced a supercharger because the waterpump side was dry and because of this the bearings turned to dust... It had done 80k

Wow if there was ever a guide on how NOT to service a Supercharger correctly it would be this one! How could you not know that the sensor that you was calling an oil pressure sensor is actually a Crank Position Sensor! And not even investigate the PTO for the water pump or even change it??? And the needless draining of the AC system and venting it to atmosphere well that’s just shocking 🤦

100% mate. Slap dash as hell...Also if the supercharger has zero oil coming out of it, then it surely warrants further investigation...For all he knows the teeth could be worn to nothing...What about at least putting some sacrificial gear oil in there to flush out any swarf or dirt?? i was about to write the same but i believe you are being a bit to harsh on him. he explained things more clearer and gave more information than others videos i seen. modmini video of the same was useless. he did mention many things that modmini left out like fan resistor failure. but yeah absolutely no excuse for not inspecting the pto chamber on the supercharger especially as it had no oil!!!. the least he could have done is check backslash on the pto gear that drives the water pump. a good practice is to reseal the chamber using some gasket maker. also calling the crank sensor a oil pressure sensor is bound to confuse people a lot.

So having re-read my earlier statement I have to stand by it. Without the sarcastic OMG. The problem is someone paid this guy to service the car and probably paid a considerable amount and now they in a very short period of time will have to pay the same labor to have it replaced or repaired and probably at a much greater cost I feel sorry for the customer. Who probably paid for a new crank sensor or actually an oil pressure sensor and a crank sensor.

Don’t know what the small plug on the original fan is for ???? So now the fan will not turn off. Cold engine and the key is not even in the ignition it runs. I have to remove the main plug from it to stop it from running so it doesn’t drain my battery. Any ideas. Please help. Thank you Regards Edin

I am pretty sure it goes to a relay in the fusebox that controls the fan from a signal from the ECU. I don't like using aftermarket parts for this reason - however I would go back to the supplier with this one as it seems that you need an additional part or some workround.

You are right of course - it's a big job - but at least it's not one you need to do often. The advantage of a supercharger is it has its own oil whereas a turbo shares oil with the engine. Both have their problems. In the R56 Cooper S the Camchain guides can disintergrate and bits of plastic block the oil pump which can lead to oil starvation....

If you did have to drain A/C and refill, this "how to video" is pretty useless, as almost nobody has proper equipment at home to drain, store and refrill compressor! I get my Mini pretty high on jackstands and blocks so I set A/C compressor on a box to not strain A/C lines.
