I've been a subscriber for almost 6 months and I just now realized that that the blue/yellow color scheme is a strip of Green Stuff.
@TomMasonSculptor

Ha! Well it probably makes it difficult since I don’t sculpt with Greenstuff all the time.

I use it weekly, so I have no excuse. Apparently, I'm just slow on the uptake lol.

Thank you! Faces are so hard for me when they are so small. Did u go to school to study sculpture?
@TomMasonSculptor

Great! Glad it helped. Errr, I took 3 courses specifically on sculpture. One was a mandatory class and none dealt with figurative sculpture. So I’m in the same boat as many others. Studied on my own and kept sculpting.

I use Greenstuff (Kneadatite) and ProCreate putties. Most of my sculpts are done with FIMO Professional polyclay.

Tom Mason do you prefer Fimo por Supersculpey? why? thank you Tom.
@TomMasonSculptor
@TomMasonSculptor 6 жыл бұрын
I prefer FIMO. The texture and consistency feel better to me. The FIMO has also seemed more durable. Super Sculpey always felt a little rubbery when I worked with it, but cooked up more brittle. Super Sculpey is totally fine to use so definitely use it if you prefer that material.

Again, pure gold! Thank you so much! I just recently decided to start sculpting because I want my heroes in Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40k to be really unique as well as be able to sculpt other things as well that I don't like the aesthetics of GW's models. I was wondering if you could I know it is going to take a lot of practice and time to get to the point where I'll be happy with the miniatures I create. I was wondering if you had any ideas on where I should start. Should I start with faces, cloaks, bodies? If it helps, my army in Age of Sigmar is the Brayherds. Stuff like this: www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Beastlord-with-Two-Hand-Weapons Thanks again! I plan on getting the student subscriber pass once I get my materials and tools and everything up and running and I get a little practice with the clay. I am planning on working with all of the materials you have showed. FIMO Professional & Quick Mix, ProCreate, Aves Apoxie Sculpt and Green Stuff. I will need to wait until my next paycheck to start picking up the tools. Should I keep the ProCreate, Aves Apoxie Sculpt and FIMO Professional & Quick Mix in the freezer like you said to do with the Green Stuff? Thanks again in advance!

I would definitely start with conversions and sculpting faces. Try and modify the existing plastic models, but keep as much of the original as you can. Bend an arm, or add some armor. You will learn a lot about how to handle the material from doing this. It's also WAY less stressful then taking on an entire sculpt. Since you are modifying minis, I would definitely practice with Greenstuff or ProCreate. FIMO won't serve you very well unless it is to make one off part that can be baked and attached later on. Thanks again for the great comments!

Ahhh okay! I already placed the order for the FIMO. I really want to start with sculpting faces and the facial features. I'll toss up some photos on the forum when I get my stuff. It said I won't have most of it until mid-late May. Thanks again!

No worries. That will be great for sculpting faces with and you can do that separately from the plastic miniatures. Make sure you pick up some greenstuff or procreate though. You'll definitely need it.
