I didn't do this kind of course until I got the foundation down with skull, muscles, etc. Moment I got this down it was so much easier. You're not guessing. You really know how muscles work for facial expressions so I suggest get that sorted first. Yes, maybe boring but if you're really excited, passionate and want to avoid future frustrations due, get the basic foundations down. Cut some small pieces of wood and start doing just eyes, different eyes for different expressions, then mouths on separate wood, and then ears etc. Less expensive, you don't need much space and it's great way of avoid being overwhelmed. You just focus on one part until you're confident then move to doing other parts of face till you got it. Get used to also using different tools for sculpturing so you really familiar which one to use for type of goal/texture/details. Then work on the final big piece. When I did that which took me about 6 months, it helped a great deal when I got on online courses like this. I got a lot of things already out of the way which meant I enjoyed the course. I am now obsessed with sculpturing.
