We wanted to fabricate twin I beam (aka twin traction beam) suspension for the mini trophy truck we're building simply because we had never tried it before. So far it's been trickier to set up than double wishbone, but at least we're getting over 12" of travel! The main benefit of twin I beam suspension is supposed to be its simplicity and durability, but given our lack of equipment, it was much more difficult for us to set up properly.
Thanks for Watching!

Hopefully with good offset it would work, that or increase the track width on the beams, lotta work ahead regardless
@MasonsCustomPC
@MasonsCustomPC 4 жыл бұрын
I was just about to say the same thing! I know that the offset would be different with new wheels, but that front section of frame may still need to be slimmed down a bit to get a tighter steering angle. At the same time, a tighter steering angle might not be a great idea because it could be top heavy and cause it to tip. I'm really interested to see how this plays out!

I ran into the same problem with Miata spindle/uprights on my reverse trike build. I had a crazy time finding a way to handle the taper in the lower ball joint which prevented me from using hiem joints like I wanted. I found that a Moog 772 screw in ball joint works for the bottom taper but bottoms out a little too far. I am now going to a set up that will use the factory Miata lower ball joint. It will only take a custom homebrew holder. In your situation you might consider going back to the factory lower ball joint. For the upper ball joint I was able to ream out the hole and go with a 1/2” grade 8 bolt and use the hiem like I originally planned. Can’t wait to see what your solution is so I can possible apply it to mine lol! Good luck.

I would recommend pushing the I beam mounts on the cart further down to help eliminate possibility of scrap on compression of suspension, because trophy trucks design to take abuse of larger scale jumps and bumps at fast speeds, other than that I'd say it's pretty good so far, love the build can't wait to see the finish result

Just an idea for a liquid cooled rear engine, I put a Subaru motor in my beach buggy and used the chassis inside to feed the radiator at the front, saved having hoses everywhere and of course my welds didn't leak 😉, no problem with corrosion with nonferrous antifreeze and I didn't need a fan, worked awesome even as a heater kind of, I don't know why that method isn't used more often 🤗 cheers good show keep it up.

Drop those inner pivots to the lower tube. This will allow you to build in 4-6" of distance between the chassis and the ground at full bump. This too will allow you to droop out more with less scrub. Also, shoot for a 1.5:1 motion ratio for the shocks. 1.5" of travel for 1" of shock stroke. Your back and oil pan will thank you. LOL

You guys need to install an engine hoist (block and chain tackle) into the attic space and lift some of your projects up into the rafter/attic to keep them out of the weather and out of the way. Simple hole in the floor to pull up through and then slide some floor joists across when you don't need it.

People run twin I beams because you can get a TON of wheel travel out of them, not to mention it can keep the contact patch flatter when cornering. Make sure you spend time on the steering, beams tend to have bump steer issues unless the steering is spot on in setup.

You can use a ford ranger from the 80's through mid 90's twin I-beams. You can gut a fourwheel drive axle from the same era these are c channel you can chop and bend. They do that all the time at autofab. With the stock ford radius arms most of these vehicles will do six inches of travel. Extend the arm to help eliminate bind and 12 inches come easy. Most ford bronco's, f150's, and ranger's using autofab products will crank out 16 inches of travel pending on set up. Fords were meant to fly. The Ford raptor just uses ifs to achieve the end result but they have to make them wider than stock hence the reason for clearance lights.
