Minibike Restoration | How to Mount PREDATOR engine | PART 1

In part 1, I show you how I make accurate slots to mount a predator 212cc engine on a Doodlebug minibike. I also show how to fit the engine properly.
How to make cardboard cutout:
Rectangle is 8 1/2" x 5"
Make 1" marks inside rectangle's sides all the way around
Measure & mark 6 7/16" lines along the 1" marks length side
Measure & mark 3 1/16" lines along the 1" marks width sides
Mark other length side 6 7/16"
From each corner you marked, cut out 5/16" thick lines for 3/4" length-wise on each side of corners (1 1/2" slots)
Mounting hardware:
5/16" x 1 1/2" coarse thread hex bolts x4
5/16" lock washers x4
5/16" regular washers x4
5/16" serrated lock nuts x4
Order from top to under mount:
nut, engine & mount plate, washer, lock washer, bolt.

Hey man I wanted to ask what clutch did you use to run the 35# chain

@the4amigos185 Amazon for around $20 you'll find 3/4" centrifugal clutch 12 tooth. 12 teeth is for 35 chains and 10 tooth is for 40/420 chains, for future reference.

I modified the motor plate on a carter go kart with a drill and file and let me tell you about tedious. Thing rips now but it was a task

So it’s pretty simple to do this? And are the hokes on the frame for the 97cc engine the same as the predator ?

You will have to drill new slots if you put the 212 on there

Thanks this helps a lot. That damn rear frame has been in my way and was thinking of just raising the engine but there’s a limit to that and how much I can raise it. I will definitely cut that rear frame bar off. If I don’t weld another piece where it was after as seen in the other videos will it still be ok? I don’t have a welder

You should be fine, how much do you weigh if you don't mind? That bar is more of a side to side kind of stability for the frame pieces. So you should be fine

@@BlakesBuilds I weight 170 around there. I got the 212 predator with a torque converter.

170lbs will break that frame without that stiffener piece. Never cut a frame stiffner without replacing it.

I got the doodle bug but apparently the guy who owned it it hasn’t been ran in over 4 years but it was running good before it was just sitting for years do you think I’ll be able to get the engine running ?? I already changed the oil changed the spark plug cleaned the air filter im thinking it’s the carb but I already cleaned it it still won’t start what are the common issues with these small doodle bug motors when sitting for so long ?

Try spraying carb cleaner or starter fluid in the intake and pull the cable. If it starts with choke off, throttle open, then you need to clean the carburetor and drain gas. If it doesn't start up then you may have a spark problem, check kill switch to make sure it's working

@@BlakesBuilds and I wanna take the carb off but there’s a stupid red bracket on the bike frame that makes it super hard to get the air filter and carb off
