Damon has just returned from the other side, he loves Elena more than his life, but Elena doesn't remember him, moreover she hates him and afraid of him, and he cannot do anything. I liked Jenna, her and Stefan's death are heartbreaking, too, but for me, this scene is the saddest. I accept your opinion, but this is mine.

Damon knows this truth on a more personal level because of his conversation with Jeremy in 1x22. She tried to do the same thing Damon did when he compelled Jeremy - end her suffering. "Look, I know you think you took it away, but it's still there. Even if I can't remember why. I still feel empty and alone, and making me forget won't fix it." That's where he's speaking from. But Damon will let her go with the same Jeremy-Vicki parallel in mind. "He's gonna miss her, but he knows it's for the best." He thinks it's what's best for her. The entire parallel is there for fans to view.

I won’t lie Stefan is a sweetheart and good looking but he was boring. Damon is good looking, exciting, wild, dangerous but loves hard. He is deep! Stefan is a bit shallow! He loved Elena because of Katherine. But he also saw a broken toy he wanted to fix. When Elena turned into a vampire he wanted to change her. Instead of just accepting who she is. Damon loves you regardless! No matter how ugly you become how destructive! Or hurt or happy.

Stefan is a sweetheart and VERY good looking 😂but i'm afraid everything else I completely disagree. Stefan wasn't shallow whatsoever. He loved Elena for who she was... not because of Katherine. He even tells Lexi this way back in season 1 that Elena is nothing like Katherine and he loves her BECAUSE she's nothing like Katherine. And Stefan did everything in his power to get the cure for Elena because she BEGGED him that she could not and did not ever want to be a vampire. She was in agony and suffering being a vampire and she also lost a lot her of goodness and empathy and caring nature when she turned. She despised everything that being a vampire brought her and hated the fact that it lead her to killing people. She didn't like the dark person that she was becoming and she told Stefan all of this. "No matter how ugly you become or how destructive" ironic that when the shoe was on the other foot and Stefan had to turn into his dark ugly and destructive side in order to save Damon she couldn't handle it. She didn't ever stop loving Stefan but she knew (as he did) that he wasn't meant to be that dark person and wouldn't accept him unless he found his way back to the person he was!! It's the same situation in reverse... Elena had become darker and crueler and less empathetic and caring as a vampire and whilst Stefan loved her through all of it, he also knew (like she did!) that she wasn't meant to be that person. They both acknowledged their own darkness but neither wanted to embrace that side of themselves, they wanted to BETTER themselves and be the best version of themselves because at their core they're both deeply caring souls. Damon was sooo unbelievably selfish and cruel towards Elena and also to all the people she cared about. How she could ever choose someone who not only didn't respect her choices but actually TOOK THEM FROM HER and hurt her friends and family because he didn't get his way and wanted on multiple occasions to sacrifice them just so Elena would live with no regard to Elena's feelings and how that would affect her afterwards...REALLY?!! But he's hot and humorous so I guess that makes it okay? 🙄 True love is selfless. And Damon was the most selfish character on the show (just because he admits/owns it doesn't make it okay.) Stelena should have been endgame.
