Sounds huge. Was going to get a Minilogue but went for the XD when it was announced. Seems like they are different enough to have both rather than just an upgrade on the original. Seems like the digital Osc opens up a huge range of sounds. Hyped for mine to arrive now.
@benjwgarner4 жыл бұрын
That's how KORG's business model works. They left out features from the XD that the original has to try to get you to buy both. Same issue with the Prologue. Everything that they make is intentionally crippled in some way so that you can't buy just one, even on the high end, that does everything. Yamaha does the same thing. It doesn't make me want to buy both, it makes me want to buy neither. Hopefully someone like Behringer comes along and eats their lunch; it would serve them right.

I think that’s the most excited I’ve ever seen you 😬 Sounds good! More sound creation, some workflow from scratch building into a groove with some other kit would be interesting to see. There’s something about the capabilities of this synth which combines with the form factor to just make sense. It really feels like an evolution of the Minilogue. A good thing as it would probably have been easy to go too far with new features that didn’t really add anything. Really a great synth for those just starting out as well as anyone wanting a complete package. It deserves to be hugely popular.

I'm currently looking for my first hardware synth, and this has been tempting me so much despite being way over my original budget. I'm sitting at 4:00 in the video and saying to myself "Okay this sounds amazing, and has all the features you want.. but maybe you should just get something cheaper like the MS-101. Plus, the MS-101 can do that lovely 303 bass." ...and then 4:35 happens. Damn it. Now I'm seriously reconsidering said budget.

That thing looks gorgeous in black. I'm so glad they got rid of that cheap slider. That's one thing I really dislike about my Monologue. Every time I touch it, I wish I hadn't because it feels like I'm going to break it. To be honest, the Minilogue when I demoed it a few years ago didn't impress me that much. It sounded good but I didn't like it enough for the price. Hearing the first few minutes of this, though, it makes me want to throw my Monologue in the trash and pick one of these up (I have several monosynths and the Korg is probably the first one to go if I were to get rid of one). I'd love to have the sounds and polyphony of this, but I'll have to wait to see if the price ever drops, or maybe pick up one used. Seems like a very nice improvement over the original. Great demo! Thanks!

Hi Bo! And thanks for all these preset videos. I would like to ask you for advice, given that you also reviewed the Minifreak: the Minilogue XD has an analogue "base" with a third digital oscillator, the sounds seem full and "real" to me, the interface is immediate, the design is classic and awesome, but I struggle with the presets, they sounds good but are very standard, nothing goes "out of the box". I find that the Minifreak on the other is slightly less convincing as a "pure sounds" (if you play a wave without any effects), it seems a little less profound/vibrating to me, but it has really beautiful presets, complex and pleasant, they're very interesting even without having to process them in DAW with other effects. Minifreak is "ready made", Minilogue is a "classic". Which one would you recommend for those who move between electronic / IDM / ambient / glitch (let's say from Floating Points to Max Cooper)? Thank you very much.

I dreamt of Bobeats and the Minilogue. Bo was a man living in the sea depths with his Minilogue, making amazing unheard sounds with it. I was diving in the clear water and met him, he offered me the sounds of his synth, but I had to find a way to bring them safe to the surface. The only way was to pour the sounds in a paper coffee filter and clean them from all the sea plants and dirt that way. Then I could finally play Bobeats Minilogue's sounds on earth and anyone was amazed and admired. I told anybody the story of Bobeats living in the sea depths and making sounds, but nobody would believe such a man could really exist at all. So, I went to visit him underwater (and he was so happy of this) with a lot of folk, showing people Bobeats exists and make sounds for real, down there in the clear sea water. So, the question is: am I looking at too many Bobeats videos? ;-)

Some awesome improvements for sure! Looks like they still haven't addressed some sloppy issues that bug me about the minilogue. One is the voice mode, its always bugged me that the arpeggiator is in this section. It means you can't use unison or chord mode with the arp. Makes no sense. No Compare mode when saving and making patches. I can't tell you how many times I've over written patches because I can't compare or preview what patch I'm over writing. To avoid accidentally erasing a program in progress, I open up a global menu so I cant change the patch. Maybe a warning that I'm about to erase my patch before saving!? Come on Korg! These are novice errors on your part. Easily fixed with a little care and a solid firmware update.

I have a pair of KRK studiomonitors at home that I wanna hook the minilogue XD up to. Now, the KRK monitors have only a balanced TRS 1/4 inch input (and not an TS input). And If I am right, I have to put an unbalanced TS 1/4 inch jack cable in the Minlogue XD output. Can I put the TS jack of that cable in the balanced TRS input of my KRK speakers ? It would be great if you could help me out with this. I'm scared that i might damage something if I put an TS jack cable in an TRS balanced input of the speakers.

Finally I bought a used XD module...the sound is amazing but the rotating encoder for patch changing/ scrolling is just insane. It works well now but one have to scroll like crazy to get forward or back, it'll "eat up" the encoder pretty fast, I mean why didn't they include -/+ or "up/down" buttons like on Radias or MS2000 (which I have)...it's a pretty crazy and unnecessary mistake...also, a -/+ button would be much faster. It's almost a deal-breaker thing...because the encoder WILL fail badly at one point when it wore out, then you won't be able to save or change a patch....
