I think I'm well prepared, Wayne, my trail hiking pole has four pouches secured underneath the handle. A foot long take-down saw as well as a stainless steel water bottle are secured to the hiking pole as well. In one pouch is an engineers compass, while the second pouch holds a fishing kit and two small lighters. The third pouch holds two lighters, and fire-steel, and a flint and steel set. Fourth pouch holds a snaring kit, two small lighters, and roll of trail ribbon. The take down saw is comprised of a foot long saw blade two nails and whatever tree branch I use to make the affair in to a small bow-saw. The whole affair looks is so compact it is perfect it leaves room on the belt for other stuff plus the pole reduces in size it can be slung across the back if I need free hands. I like your kit but I was busy building my kit down here to

You go well prepared and that is wise. This is minimal gear and can get you thru, but adding a few more pieces can make it easier at times. If i can get people trained in carrying at least this gear, it is far more then most carry now. Thanks again for the watch and take care.

@@kullcraven A lot of people really only know the job routine and restrictive town life but I'm sure there will be a great interest in wilderness when Spring hits and fishing season starts. I forgot my second Swisschamp SAK is in the pouch with the trail ribbon.

Instead of two tarps, I bring a poncho and a space blanket. The poncho as a wind breaker, in case it rains, and I could make a tent out of it. The main way I like to use it as a shelter is to wear it, sit down, and lean my back against a tree. I fold the space blanket in thirds lengthwise (silver out), then tie a knot at one end with a small cord, then turn it inside out so it becomes a top quilt with a foot box. I can slip my feet into it and pull it over me, under the poncho. Then I can sleep with my back against the tree. A mosquito head net is nice during summer. So I am wearing my shelter and can handle a rain storm.
@kullcraven5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a great set up and like you mentioned in cold weather, you can make a shelter in combination with a fire. Well done and every person should find what works for them. :)

Nice experienced advice today I made my own 'something is better then nothing' going into woods kit- somethings I bought some were siting around the house my backpack probably about 13 lbs.- axe-3 packs of matches inside plastic bag-8 survival candles-metal kettle-folding hunting knife-jean jacket-2pair socks- underwear-sweater- 3 heavyduty 33in×48in garbagebags-1 large towel-small flashlight-antiseptic cream- roll of cloth bandage-3 packets of instant soup ( 1 packet has 4 pouches)- 2 bags of peanuts-bear spray -4 feet of nylon string- (2)8 foot strong rope. (1) 16 foot strong rope - compass with magnifying glass-cigarette lighter( don't go into woods unprepared)I bet if you learn archery and carry a 35 lb draw bow and arrows you would not just survive but thrive...

Each person has to build a kit to fit their own environment and needs in my opinion. Always remember keeping you temperature regulated, and hydration. Food is not needed for a few days, but like it is great for keeping a positive attitude and energy up. Stay safe and sounds like you have alot of areas covered.

thanks for another great video Wayne. I carried enough such items with me when I went hunting...to keep me comfortable for a night or two if need be...thankfully I never needed to make use of them for emergency situations. but hey which is the better scenario: having an emergency kit and not needing it, or needing one and not having it? ;-) Oh and you are right having it and not knowing how to use it is kind of pointless right?! My Scouts Canada training sure has been handy over the years.

Thanks for your comment and your thoughts. Carrying some gear for a survival kit is like carrying a first aid kit. It can be a life saver if needed.
