I thank God that I’ve discovered the joy of owning less. I grew up in a hoarding home and I had to learn how to practice cleaning and getting rid of things… a decade later I find more joy in getting rid of things than owning them. It feels so good.

Oh my goodness I have no idea how I found you but I’m so grateful that I did. I unfortunately was sick for about three months before the quarantine so that means I have been stuck at home for close to six months. One of the things I have learned is how little I am impressed by things anymore. I don’t know if I’m a minimalist but I am certainly an anti-clutter person. LOL

I think the quarantine is forcing us all consider our homes a bit more. I'm glad the KZbin algorithm brought you here Margaret!

Thank you for your words! There are no rules for minimalism, it's your choice what you consider worth having and what not. I think it is so important that everyone practices their own way of minimalism when choosing this lifestyle instead of putting down others because you are not "enough minimalist". Accusations like "You own two bowls, that's so not minimalist, I only need one!" are really putting a damper on this awesome lifestyle sometimes. Happy to see your positive attitude towards it! :)
@DanielTitchener4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. There's never a 100% "right" way and doing something is better than doing nothing. The "shaming" attitude doesn't solve anything. 🤷🏻♂️

On a completely unrelated side note, I could listen to you reading from the phone book - if such things existed anymore - you've such a soothing voice. Having watched your videos, the phrase that keeps coming up for me is "I'd never have thought of that," which means that I 'need' the 450 sq ft I have rather than your 300. Maybe you could make a video about the 3-5 key points of design that have the most significant impact on a space. Possibly setting up a side business helping people refine and improve their homes.

I have been waiting for your next video! Love, Love, Love all your videos but this on struck a chord. You identified so beautifully for me something I always have done since childhood but couldn't put a word to it - EFFICIENCY. I have always loved to organize, create systems that are efficient and cut out all the unnecessary parts of a process (redundancy), long, clean open spaces to work, a place to store out of sight when finished in an easily accessible way. It is exciting and satisfying to me to see a functional, efficient Minimal space I've created and also what others have come up with to solve their own issues. Efficient, Functional, Beautiful to look at Design, Quality Materials. Please keep making your videos. Loved how you came to your own place of creativity.

I love that you posted this. I got introduced to minimalism through my boyfriend (at the time,) and the Matt D'Avela's documentary. If you see my youTube post, it looks like I'm "maximalism." But I'm not, I use to collect things and now slowly letting things go. I had these things before I got into the lifestyle and have the space for what I purchased. My long term goal is the own less and move to a smaller place. For now, I am working with what I have to avoid bringing things in my home. This is my journey and I will define what minimalism for me will be and what it looks like.

Hi Daniel! Greetings from Serbia! I watched one of your videos a week ago. Today, 02.08.2020. I started to get reed of the things that made My life and living space so complicated that I didn't have the space in My mind to even notice them. While I was watching this video I remembered one of Bruce Lee quotes. It goes as follow: " The more We value Things, the less We value our selves." Thanks for every video and ceep going. Now I am reorganising My living room. Next is My room that I call "Office". This video and one about productivity will be essential for implementing core values of productivity in My " Office" and My life. Thanks! Miroslav, Serbia.

Another great video, inclusive and informative. Minimalism is a life journey, I started my own about 20 years ago. I have a simple and comfortable life, and I always had in mind that minimalism is not about depriving myself from any joy, quite the opposite. I love everything I own, and feel at peace when I come home to colourful and bright environment. I love all forms of arts, and put quite a bit of money investing in supporting various artists (and I love Art Deco!). To me it’s all about conscious choices, for myself and for the planet. One small change at a time... I hope we will see you more often, it would be amazing if you could share more on how minimalism is applied in architecture and design! Cheers from Montreal!
@hgordon044 жыл бұрын
Thank for sharing this with us. I sometime find myself on the cuff of not knowing if I’m a minimalist or what but I’ve learned early on that we don’t require much to live and I don’t have the desire to own a big home, numerous cars and more and more stuff but really live by a less is more method which seems practical for my lifestyle. With that said, please share more of your architectural projects. I’d love to see more of your designs. Thanks!

Daniel Titchener, Dr Geoff Lindsey, John Buttler, Joshua Becker ... I can listen to them for hours together..... The crisp articulate language, flawless, fluent and to the point speech... deep voice... Often you watch a minimalist or an organisation Diva channel for their expertise in the subject matter, but it almost gets impossible to neglect their blabber and beating around the bush build up talk throughout the video and concentrate on the content. I am glad there are content creators who practise minimalism in their speech too.

Thank you for your thought provoking and calming videos. As much as the idea of minimalism resonates with me, as I get older and find my memory less efficient, l feel that if not for some of the “things” I have to remind me of places traveled to or experiences had, those memories would be lost forever. I guess it’s the fear of losing memories rather than losing things that’s at play for most people

Loved this video. I was always curious about how things work and making them efficient, Was never functional>artistic. I dropped out of electrical engineering, took a break, realized I want to do Computer Science. meanwhile, I was studying parts of behavioral psychology and some philosophy just out of interest and got to know about minimalism. Been two years now, exploring web dev, UX/UI, and design. It's all connected. Loved this book "design of everyday things" and yes now I know this other side of art and engineering.
