I rented a hotel room as a furnished apartment for a few months many years ago. The room came with a king sized bed, breakfast area, bathroom, cable TV. I also had maid service once a week and could get room service from the hotel restaurant. It was a nice short term arrangement.

I've always had the exact same thoughts while traveling long before minimalism became a thing. I never was crazy about going home to a big old house. Small is so much better!

Tim and Tammy, yes, yes and yes! When the big flood of Nashville Tennessee hit in 2010, it wiped out my entire neighborhood, and all the condos in it. I lived in a nearby Microtel Inn & Suites for 9 months while trying to figure it all out and decide what to do. I loved the minimalist life there at Microtel. Free internet, cable tv, coffee, breakfast, no electric/gas/water bill, and free housekeeping to boot. I came sooo close to using my FEMA money to buy a mobile camper, hook up my little Porsche, and live in it. I had a son just starting college, so I postponed that dream and rebuilt the condo. Took every penny of FEMA, savings, a grant, and then some. Now that he's grown with a wife and daughter, and I turn 63 in October, I applied for the SS, and will see what's in store. Only problem is credit card debt, but I'll get creative to get that down as you advise. Thank you so much for these real life videos, so helpful, supportive and inspiring.

Very nice, you forgot to show the Kitchenette. Did you know that now they have developed comfort versatile "Murphy Bed" that folds up into the wall or cabinet to create a little office or entertainment center during the day, and a bedroom at night. Not your grandfather's Murphy Bed, these new ones are high-tech and attractive. Would make it very possible to live in an eefficient way in one big room. Check out some examples at Breda Beds, or Wayfair has some too. There are all sorts of combinations.

Even efficiency apartments are expensive these days. Have you guys looked into park models? Where I live it is $136 a month, you own the lot so there is no lot rent. It includes water, sewer, garbage, cable and internet plus all the amenities. Prices on these have skyrocketed too but for the price you would pay for an apartment you could get a loan. if need be. on one of these and at some point have it paid off. I remodeled mine so it is very cute. If you find something that has a good layout you can always remodel it to your liking. Find a park where everyone keeps their lots up. Usually when you own the lot people take more pride in them, but no always. It doesn't have the expensive upkeep like there is on a large house. And because I bought when prices were lower I only paid $250 for taxes last year. There may be a gem hiding out there yet, you have to do a lot of looking.

This is a great space, just needs a kitchenet.. that is all you really need 'cause nobody wants to spend time in the house cleaning when you retire.

I'm living this way for the last 2 years. No children, no girlfriend/wife. 700 dollars a month, completely renovated. No bills, all included with wifi. People can't understand why I would choose to live in a hotel? It's so comfortable, I made it home like, and zero deposit, security, credit check. Etc, etc, etc. Gospel, faith, mgtow=freedom. Able to save 800 a month chilling and going my own way. 💪 My place is MUCH smaller though. 😁

Hey Tim, you're in my neighborhood! I could've bought you a cup of coffee. My first place was an efficiency apartment in Washington DC in 1979. It cost me $187/mo (including utilities). It was about the same size as your hotel room, including the kitchenette. I don't think I could be a minimalist, but I enjoy seeing you make it work.

I've often thought when I buy a house that I would model the bedroom like some hotels I've stayed in. Once I was really fond of was at a place called Wind Creek Casino & Hotel in Alabama; whomever decorated their rooms did a fine job. Only thing that bothered me there was when in my room I smelled like cigarettes yet I don't smoke so apparently they don't have the quality smoke filters like places in Vegas.
