Located in the Northern Sydney suburb of Naremburn, “The Shed” is an award winning collaboration between Anderson Architecture and Louise Sullivan Design. This minimalist granny flat boasts the footprint of a tiny house, without compromising on the luxuries of a small home.
Inspired by the old shed it replaces, the property’s material palette hints at its heritage whilst remaining a modern design. Site constraints have inspired some unique design features which have been fully embraced in styling the house. The exposed hardwood laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams, brick and barn-like form are as functional as they are aesthetic. The interior framing reduces thermal bridging and insulated southern brick wall provide thermal mass. Guided by thermal modelling this small house is architecturally designed to meet Passive House (Passive Haus) principles.
This slender secondary dwelling maximises the sense of space by using a double height living area and large sliding windows which open onto a generous garden. It’s small living, but Louise wouldn’t have it any other way!
