You're to the point, clear, and very entertaining. I am particularly thrilled with any videos that are generally less than 10 minutes! Not because I get bored or am not interested in the content. I just have very limited time that I can spend online and these are so perfect for sitting down when I have a break. I will watch these every time over something that is longer with the same information 😊. Hugs!

Thanks for your Video...I do have to tell you though that it is absolutly Not Necessary!!! To use bleach or anything strong cleaning products in a private household. As i worked years AS a midwife in hospital ( my husband is doctor of Chirurgie,sorry dont know the exact right word in english 😀)i can assure you that even toilets need just to be cleaned with a neutral cleaner and a bit vinegar.the problem with bleach dayly or only from time to time is that germs survive anyway and become resistant.on the other hand we studied that every household has their own good germs ( bacteria and germs are good and important...we have 3 Kilos of them in our body!!!) And that the major advatage of a house delivery is that the family germs are not harming!! The University of Heidelberg taught us that....so just dont be afraid and tell others too! Bleach causes allergies! Love ❤️

I know you don't like Easy Off Oven Cleaner, and I don't know what you think about ammonia, but I used to put my oven racks and stove top racks and trays into a black garbage bag, took them outside, poured in some ammonia, closed that bag with a twist tie, and left the bag in the sun for awhile. A few hours later, I went out, hosed off the items, and they were clean!

Okay talking about natural cleaners... I love that you have the knowledge about this. I am an avid follower of Clean Mama (for, like, years!!) I have done her homemade cleaners -- I still use her glass cleaner in fact. But for the "better" cleaning, I have gone to The Better Life all purpose cleaner. My understanding is that their cleaners will kill the bacteria. Do you have any knowledge on that? I'd be curious your thoughts about those. I very sparingly use bleach because, even though I know it will kill things, my husband is very sensitive to it. I have gone to these because they don't seem to bother him. Also, how about the steam cleaners? I have one that I use as well. That sucker CLEANS! Wow.

I love your channel Robyn! When you are using bleach in your bathrooms, what ratio bleach to water do you use?
@MinimalistHome3 жыл бұрын
A good ratio is about 1 part bleach to 9 parts water. It isn't really necessary most of the time, but when people are sick or you have little boys who are having "issues" then I like to break out the bleach!

Borax. I put a little Borax and a little dish soap in dishpan of warm water and it cleans greasy gunk. I use it for my stove and the range hood. I use eco friendly dish soaps, but I have to admit that Dawn is great. I use it for hand washing bras. 😝

You mention her recipe for vinegar based cleaners isn't the right concentration. What do you feel the right concentration is?
@MinimalistHome3 жыл бұрын
Hey Diana, as a cleaner, it can be used as a 1:1 dilution if you like, less is fine (if it is actually cleaning well), but sadly is not a great disinfectant. It can also be hard on your hands and lungs, so be careful.
@xavthomas Жыл бұрын
I tried looking this up after watching the video. I couldn't find anything that said there is a concentration as good as bleach or one that would be recommended for disinfecting (vs cleaning). The main points seem to be around the level of acidity, so cleaning vinegar would therefore kill more germs than the salad stuff. On the other hand, if the point in disinfecting is to keep people from getting sick then it is important to note that some level of dirt in your home is actually protective. Having low-level immune responses keeps your immune system in check and clears out any nasties that might be flying under the radar. This is one of several reasons why living in a less hygienic space is correlated with lower rates of cancer. Another reason is less exposure to toxic chemicals, like bleach.

Interesting video, and a general observation. Lately and since the onset of Martha Stewart like home/organizing, & decorating gurus, I have noticed that there are a lot of 'clean your house' videos on YT, and this is surprising to me. Our parents, grandparents and great grand parents did not require any info on keeping and taking care of their homes or possessions, cooking, etc, but it seems that people now do. My mother,& grandmother are long gone now, but they worked (outside of the home on 40 hr) a week jobs, and kept extremely well ordered homes. Thus, my question is, what is wrong with people now? Why were they able to do what needed to be done, with no outside help, and less mechanical gadgets and we cannot. We even have machines that vacuum for us, and we still cannot keep our floors clean and/or our houses in order it seems. Seriously, if my parents, & grand parents were alive today, they would laugh at everyone. Ms. B. Churchill
@MinimalistHome Жыл бұрын
Well, there could be a few reasons: 1. We have too much stuff in our house and have to manage it 2. Women work both inside and outside of the house 3. Children are over-scheduled and over-committed which keeps parents over-committed.
@xavthomas Жыл бұрын
I think you are forgetting that there used to be a huge industry of magazines, books and newspaper columns aimed at women that were all about how to keep a better house! There were even schools that women went to for training in homemaking. Housekeepers did professional apprenticeships. This is not new. It is a tale as old as time.

I read in the British Medical Journal years ago that there was an observable-but-mysterious link between affluence, “excessive” use of bleach, and childhood leukaemia. It remains to be seen whether the diseases are linked with the bleach or perhaps moulds, which are often treated with bleach.
