Michael has a knack of finding the best little cafes, coffee stops, and bakeries wherever he goes. You should put together a narrowboat guide to good food along the various canals you've travelled. Good to see George up and about and enjoying himself....and both of you of course! Blessings from Down Under 🇦🇺.

That is not a bad idea. Thanks

I love your channel and your continuing journey through this country which although born and bred here or there (Scotland) I've hardly seen any of it, so watching you all travelling through the canals and waterways is so enjoyable and great viewing while eating my lunch and or just wanting or needing a calm video which is still very interesting to wind down to or escape this hectic world for a bit, So thank you as soon as payday comes I'll be rejoining your membership as I miss it already! Thanks again ❤️👍🇬🇧🏴🇨🇮🏴🏳️🌈

It was interesting to see Thorne again. My father used to go to Stanilands boatyard as a member of the Art Club, who used to draw the boats. My wife's parents had a boat at Stanilands, but that was years before I met her.

Its an interesting place. I have family history here too but nothing to do with boats.

That bridge at Thorne can be a nightmare only bettered by one outside of Rodley on the Leeds/Liverpool.

Always sad to see a sunken boat on the canal. Someone's pride and joy full of water and looking abandoned.
@MinimalListАй бұрын
Always really sad and makes me so curious as to the story behind it.

You mentioned the shipyard at Thorne in this video. On one of our many visits to Scotland we visited the Crinan Canal where one of the only 3 Clyde Puffers is based. In WW2 a hundred VIC’s (Victualling Inshore Craft) were built on the Clyde Puffer design which had serviced the many islands around Scotland. The one at Crinan is the VIC 32 built in 1043 at the Richard Dunston’s Shipyard in Thorne.

I had to google what a Clyde Puffer is. That was really interesting, thanks.

Great video! Nice to see Jack and Briony again on the green boat you started your journey with. We came up from Lincoln to Keadby with them.

Great video guys, never seen anything from the canals of Doncaster before. Hug for George, hope he’s doing ok. Keep well you two. 🙏❤️

Have to agree, lost/abandoned soft toys are the saddest sight anywhere, I do try to put them up higher so they can be seen, in the faint hope that they are spotted by the owner retracing steps to look for them.

What Michael was saying about the cafe and cross generational interaction reminded me of an ABC TV show that ran for a couple of seasons - the first was called old people's home for 4 year old. Sometimes the aged care residents did not want to be involved but the children won them over.

Home-made blueberry scones? They might get me stuck for life too! hehe Ramming _speed_ may not mean much in a narrowboat, but thinking about it, the sheer amount of mass they have has me worried. Your jokes are right up my alley today. :) And was that a pawprint made in the coffee foam? That was sweet. The heron at Stavely is slowly getting more and more tame, letting people get closer and closer before taking off. :) And a few days ago, I saw an albatross! I was cycling a way I don't normally go when I saw this bird coloured like a herring gull but with longer thinner wings, and I wondered what it was. At Poolsbrook (which I approached from the oppositite direction to usual) I got a fairly close view and it had an albatross beak. I could hardly believe it! :) It was at Stavely the next day, so it might be heading west, though I'll be happy if it sticks around.

Luckily Michael wasn't that serious about ramming speed. I hope. It is so great seeing wildlife isn't it.
@eekee6034Ай бұрын
@@MinimalList hehe! Yeah, I should have put a smiley on the ramming speed paragraph. :)

Poor teddy! The most kingfishers we've seen so far on the system have been along the River Don.

It is a beautiful stretch of river in places.

Ah, Granny talk, the first form of social media! Poor Ted, a very sad sight. And it just shows who really is in charge - George, lock keeper extraordinaire, he'll know every lock on the system inside out. Take care you three

Another lovely waterway even though it was a bit crowded and industrial in places. Don't share Michael's passion for cakes and sweet things so I wouldn't get any muffins even if they were available. Poor ted!
