Hi, I've retired and living on board for five years. I have a stove, a Webasto, so I'm never cold, which is a major bonus, energy cost is a lot cheaper than a two bed flat.

I'm 78, but fit for my age, I also had 40 years experience of boating which helps with handling.

When buying a Narrowboat or any boat really, It is in YOUR BEST INTERESTS to have a survey done BEFORE you part with your hard earned money. it will cost you around £600 for the survey and another £300 approx to have the boat lifted out of the water for the surveyor and when he/she has finished put back in the water. (A narrowboat surveyor assesses the condition of a narrowboat, including the hull, internal systems, and other components, and produces a report) £900 might seem expensive, but compared to buying a boat without one for 10's of thousands of pounds and then finding the Hull needs replating at a cost of £10k + £900 seems cheap and gives you peace of mind.

The other thing is that you may not like living on a boat full time, you won't know till you've tried.

I have a Bill of Sale for my boat, I am only the second owner , you should ask for recent receipts and the driving licence of the vendor , otherwise it could be a complete scam.

My advice is not to buy a project, you won't get your money back. James is a youngster, he can work to earn money. Money is something you need when you own a boat!
