The 780g has been incredible for me. I’ve been type 1 for 44 years and have had Medtronic pumps for almost 20 years. I agree 100% with all these tips.

I just upgraded to the Minimed 780G system and I love it! So far, it's working great for me. Thank you, Minimed and to my local tranir, who was diligent in contacting me! Otherwise, I would've just dismissed her calls as spam or something that I wouldn't have believed that I had time for.

Thoroughly disappointed in guardian for sensors. Everybody talked about how great the new 780 G is and they finally have a sensor Gaurdian 4 that’s amazing. I’ve been on the pump for roughly 2 months now and I’ve yet to have 1 sensor not fail on me. It’s also has extremely painful insertion. The sensor requires way too much time & work trying to get tape just right while keeping sensor in your arm and you can only insert it in the back of your arm. I can’t tell you how thoroughly disappointed I am. The pump mechanisms and infusion set. Seems like they haven’t changed in 20 years, but they need to start over from scratch on the sensor in my opinion.

I insert my CGM in & around my abdomen. I allow enough room of course from my pump insertion site. Sometimes I will even put one on each side. Just depends. You are right about it not being easy to put in! Even where I appt it, sometimes I need my husband’s help with the darn tape it come with!

I agree with that tape problems.....I had the same thing happen.....one piece of tape always shook loose. My greatest advancement that literally solved 90% of my problems was...................get tape from a different source. I found "Not Just a Patch" brand.....It was a single rounded triangular piece of tape that applied easily and held on like another layer of my skin. My next month of CGM installs went like clockwork and they ALL lasted the full cycle for the CGM.....this was a game changer for me. Medtronic tech support stated they had no problem with me using this form of tape........so I will .....

I can make one recommendation that helped me a lot……..forget the Medtronic tape ……..I am currently using “Not Just A patch” brand…..it is a single piece (rounded triangle-clear) of tape that applies easily and holds the sensor on super-securely.. I had a few early failures that may have occurred because of the difficulty in removing the “needle guard”…. If this is too awkward it can loosen the sensor on your arm…..your technique has to be perfect…..

I too have been woke up for low blood sugar only to find out that my blood sugar is not low. Usually, this causes me to receive another alert saying "calibration not accepted." Then I have to wait for two hours in order to test again. It should work right the first time, then I wouldn't have to go without sleeping for hours at a time.

I love my Medtronic 780G insulin pump, it is a great delivery system for my insulin. Having said that.......the Guardian 4 is a poorly designed product that is very User UN-friendly......I have attended the training....read the manuals.....watched the videos and my first few months with the Guardian 4 were extremely difficult. After going through all the training, I called the 800 line to get some advice on why I was having problems........Amazingly the tech I spoke with said....." You should ALWAYS have another person help you with the insertion process"...................Where does it say that in the literature.........IT Doesn't...........there needs to be a better CGM design.....similar to the LIBRE 2, which gives me a reliable CGM with a 2 week life span. Medtronic...you are losing your leadership role in the CGM marketplace....

Is your transmitter needing replacement? I was told that they expire after about a year and then the sensors begin not working well and giving me trouble. That's what had been happening for me for months when I had the Guardian Sensor 3 & the 770G system. It wouldn't calibrate or acccept the sensors. I had given up altogether on using them until my local trainer told me about this. She also said that the pump would no longer wake me up at night beeping because it wanted a manual calibration. She was right! I love this new system! I've had type 1 diabetes for 49 years now. So far, this is the best control I've had. I hope you can find out why the Guardian sensor 4 isn't working for you.

Absolutely agree with you on this! We would have thought before releasing the 780 they would have had up to date CGM system ready on day 1.

I agree with you Shawn. Compared to the Dexcom Sensor and transmitter, the Guardian 4 system is 3rd world, and the overlay taping process is ridiculous, and needs to be replaced by something more state of the art, which this isn’t.

The tip about possibly bolusing if your blood sugar is high, but on smart guard, it is very frustrating since you have to get out of smart guard to do it.
@BoiseOpian
@BoiseOpian Жыл бұрын
You might be tempted to record "synthetic carbs" (carbs you didn't ingest but that allow you to bolus). This was straightforward in the 770G, but be extremely cautious doing so with the 780G in order to not take additional insulin above what the 780G might have already given you in AutoCorrection(s). I check the SG graph for AutoCorrection indicators and note how much I have already received before every using synthetic carbs to help coax my BG down from an excessive high value.

I was told by Medtronic support staff and their supvisors to give "fake carbs" if you feel your blood sugar is going too high and you don't want to wait for the 5 minutes correction bolus to bring it back down. They say always stay in the SmartGuard mode when using the 780g; by not doing so you are messing up the algorithm's calculations. They say do not go into manual mode as we use to with the 670g and 770g pumps to deliver bolus insulin when not eating (i.e. giving fake carbs). I wish Metronic would have been upfront about this and stated this in the 780g with the Guardian 4 user manual. For example if for some reason your blood sugar goes to 300 waiting for the 5 minute auto correction boluses to bringit back down is ridiculous; it can take hours to bring it down that way.
@vince5467
@vince5467 Жыл бұрын
Regarding Boise comment your pump knows the insulin you added with the fake carbs. So the pump knows your active insulin before making any additional adjustments with the 5 minute auto correction boluses. Medtronic should take their head out of the sand and address this in an update too their manual and immediately with a memo to all.

This is somewhat problematic…. It’s difficult in many situations to know the exact carbs in a meal … book wise the system seems perfect but reality often varies …. Why isn’t there a simple function to add an addition bolus when you haven’t figured right on carbs or added an additional bite to eat?

Question, I'm getting a lot of low alerts. I tried to do suspend on low, and it does not allow me to do this. Why is the pump smart enough to give extra insulin but not smart enough to back off on basal if going low?

I wish I could comment photos because I am continually woken up at 3:30-4:00 am with low blood sugar alerts because this amazing pump is overdosing me on insulin I fear it's going to cause me to have a seizure! It's NOT as smart as it should be. You claim all I have to do is let it have control but I'm losing sleep because of this!

If that is happening consistently then it is not a pump problem.....it is a settings problem. This is where you should be approaching your Endocrinologist to confer on pump setup changes........the pump does what YOU tell it to do......this is where you need to collaborate with your doctor to change the outcomes......Most reputable doctors welcome that .........
@LuckyHabit

I am using my pump in Smart Guard mode which means none of the settings are even being applied. Also, I live in Rural NM. The nearest endocrinologist is several hours away. I don't have or see one.

I think you may not understand how the smartguard works….it is not an AI…….pump setup is still required with adjustment made over time. Endocrinologists are far away……right??!!??……in 2024 many doctors can conduct FaceTime visits to provide the care of a specialist without the travel. Diabetes is a progressive disease (it doesn’t get better….) If you don’t aggressively manage your disease your life will be shortened……..that’s harsh…..but true. Even worse….imagine living day to day…but….your blind…..or missing a leg from poorly managed control. That is enough to scare me into submission…….Best of Luck

Just did the upgrade to 780g last week. I was bouncing on the low end too. Called my Doc and the pump trainer. The issue was the setting and easily fixed. Don't wait to call and fix your issue. Everyone and their management is different call them, 780g is a great system, but, get the help to tweak it to your comfort.
