No, no, no: the Luca Brasi scene at Connie's wedding wasn't meant to imply that Brasi was some speechless oaf. First of all, that scene was completely real, ie, it was the actor, Lenny Montana (who had been an actual mob enforcer/bodyguard as well as pro wrestler) nervously practicing his dialogue, and Coppola decided to keep it in the film because it underscored how respected and feared Don Vito was. Second, in the book, it's made plain just why Brasi was so feared (chopping up two of Al Capone's goons with an axe); he certainly wasn't just some brainless goon.
@expendableindigo96394 жыл бұрын
He can be brainless and a feared strong killer.
@PeacefulJoint3 жыл бұрын
He was a psychopath, that's why he was feared. The whole reason he was loyal to Vito was because Luca forced a woman to throw his newborn child into a furnace at gunpoint. Then was arrested a week later for murdering the child's mother. The woman who was forced to kill the child felt safe enough to tell Vito what really happened and Vito had the charges dropped knowing a man willing to murder his own child was a man willing to do anything, and winning that loyalty would be priceless. Although the man disgusted Vito.
@valmarsiglia3 жыл бұрын
@@PeacefulJoint In the novel there was another story that added to the legend of Luca: Al Capone once sent a couple of hitmen to NYC, and Luca got a hold of them, chained them up in some warehouse, and chopped one of them to death with an axe. This is the kind of game you can never go back to many years later, but if you were there to play it when it was new it was a blast, especially for Godfather fans. I remember loving the way they combed the movie to find scenes in which a nameless Corleone goon was present, like the cannoli scene where you play the guy in the back seat, just so they could turn the goon into Player 1 Agent Smith style. And surprisingly... it worked (mostly). As for the criticism concerning the movie not lending itself to an action game, I think it lends itself perfectly to show the other side of the coin: where the movie shows the leading branch of the family and their hands-off approach, the game shows the muscle and their wet work.

I def like Mafia better as a game. Found them stark contrasts. Godfather seemed based around the repetitive gameplay of smashing and buying up shops, then having shootouts to protect them, with a sort-of story in the background. In Mafia, every mission was motivated to progress the story, was novel from the ones before (even if there was several shoot-all-the-people-who-shoot-at-you missions) and just seemed to want to bring that era to life. The car bonus missions were the only part that seemed a little tacked on. Only, with such designed missions, I wish there was more of it. Mafia 2 felt like they tried to bridge the gap between the two games. Nowhere near as fun. Never finished.

Such a good game. You didn`t even mention that you could rob banks by blowing up the comically large vault door conveniently placed behind the bank teller out front. Or that you could raid the enemy compounds with hundreds of enemies and wipe them out. Suspend your disbelief and just enjoy this game because it is at least better than modern movie tie ins.

Not everything needs to be a video game and i stand by that strongly but man, that godfather game was something different back in an era when GTA and rockstar were dominant with San Andreas. This game is underrated

My dad, who I had never seen play a video game other than Age of Empires 2, picked this game up one night after watching me play it. I showed him how to start a new save file, gave basic instructions, then went off to bed. The next morning I woke up to find him having not slept, still glued to the TV. His infatuation went on for a few weeks. My older brother reminds me every so often of the time he got a call while at work from my dad, who wanted to know how to throw a shopkeeper in an oven. My dad died 2 years ago, and this game brings back fond memories. My bro and I still remind each other about it every so often. Thanks for the video.

i absolutely loved this game growing up and actually really enjoyed how it tied into the film and showed a lot of what was going on in the background in the film and im one of those believers that games should be more fun then just an interactive film like i felt mafia was and i thought that as a mob movie buff i would have loved it and though the story was good that was the only reason i finished it imo the gameplay wasnt fun by any means and the added realism like traffic tickets, speed limit, and quick deaths all took more away from the experience then added to it and felt the game was totally unenjoyable bc of it

Oooh, I remember this game. I remember my older cousin playing it, way back when. It looked cool as heck, cause it was like, GTA, but it's wasn't GTA. Being a kid, I didn't know anything about The Godfather at the time, other than it was a movie, so I was really interested. I wanted to play it myself ever since that day, just never got around to. I played a bit (literally like, first 40 minutes) of the second game, and it was alright, too.

You didn't even mention the special guns you can get. That was like my favorite part of playing the game.

"Make a game based on the Warriors, imagine that..." With it being made by Rockstar and not only a good ass game with solid combat, letting you play through the movie, being a prequel to the movie, and giving you character backstories on how each one joined the Warriors, yeah imagine that.

This was one of my favorite games on the PS3, after a long time searching for this game I found a copy on some dodgy website and I bought it again. Brought back so many memories, I believe I 100% it in like 2 long ass days back last year. Loved the fact that you had to holster your weapons in public (I had never seen that before back then) and the whole taking over NYs boroughs from other families really gave me flashbacks from GTA San Andreas with the whole turf war going on. The atmosphere is pretty good, it really is a great homage to the movie. After seeing this in my recommended vids I'm so ready to sneak back into those compounds once again.

I mean, I wasn't exactly expecting classical film director Francis Ford Coppola to be like "Yeah! Videogames!" Especially a fairly quick paced action game.

How is this game weird, obscure or a tie-in? It's a pretty standard open world loose adaptation of a film that had come out more than 30 years before the game was launched, and it received lots of publicity.

He's having an own opinion, so do you, simple as that

@@AdminAbuse It's not weird if it follows a pretty standard formula, it's not obscure if everyone heard of it, and it's not a tie-in if it was released decades after the movie.

Most people haven't heard of it. Obscure: Yes. Is based on a pre-existing piece of media. A tie-in: Yes. As for weird, that is up for debate.

@@marianoclerici3986 "if everyone heard of it" Yeah, that is absolutely NOT true. "it's not a tie-in" Not every tie-in has to release at the same time as the movie or book.

The funniest thing is if you complete the side missions before completing the main game, if you control all of new york and then finish the final mission, you go through the cutscene where Michael is welcomed as the new don of the family, only for it to cut to you sat at the chair and everyone hailing you as the don of new york in the very next scene in the exact same room, almost like you just shot Michael, took his chair and everyone's cool with it.

Funnily enough. This game is what i call good fanfiction. Your OC is seen in the movie but also not a main character instead acting as his own supporting character with his own story and vendetta. The fact that his backstory ties in with the barzini is really good and also not forced upon. Even until now I want to play this game and the graphics while has aged i still enjoy it.

12:25 and 12:36 Fake news, you can do that in the Wii version too, I know that because I used to play it all the time. So it isn't a PS3 exclusive. I think you can also do that in the PC version too, but I might be wrong.
