2:00 I saw a fan theory on reddit like a decade ago that brings up the possibility that minions *are* genetically engineered, and that the Minion film is a propaganda film designed keep them from straying too far from Gru. The three protagonist minions are similar to the three gurls, perhaps suggesting that they are the ideal way of being. The last time I brought this up, I found a behind-the-scenes interview directly calling them "genetically engineered," confirming at the very least that the minion evolution is a retcon.

I heard some people headcanon Gru made more minions. Either by cloning or genatic engenering. That's my favorite theory and makes the most sense in my head. Because the despicable me movies have way more minions than the first minion movie. So some people say the ones from the first movie are the originals and Gru studied them and made more.

In elementary school when the second Despicable Me movie came out, me and my best friend made two dioramas of minions castles. It was made out of paper towel roles and boxes. The minions were made out of egg cartons. It’s still my best project yet. The one I made was for the purple minions. I wish I had photo evidence because it feels like a fever dream recalling it

Frozen and Minion became both popular in the same time period but only the minions ended up hated so much, despite Frozen being spammed way more than them. I worked in a supermarket at the time and i don't joke when i say we had a Frozen product for basically anything.

I remember a massive chunk of my school really hating Frozen because of how much Let it Go was spammed everywhere. I think Minions are more hated now though because of how much you see them in annoying contexts (garbage fbook memes, The Minions Movie, the fact that Despicable Me keeps throwing up sequels, of which the promo materials are the Minions). It probably also doesn't help that if kids love it, they'll hyperfixate on the movie, or the Minion parts and will watch it over and over. Frozen was spammed a crapload after it's release, sure, but Minions feel like they're spammed in the present. Also the way that they speak can be super annoying when listened to, while something like Olaf can speak like a normal person. I think I would probably compare the Minions to, if Marshmellow from Frozen was chibi, there were thousands of them, and instead of roaring Marshmellows made more human-like sounds and words. Also they're a main character, have a bunch of spinoffs and were the main way to market Disney's next 6 Frozen movies Illumination itself also doesn't have much of a good reputation, and with the Minions being their mascot they get dragged down as well.

My theory is since they end up killing their masters the minions are organisms created for cosmic justice for the worst villains. Gru would've end up dead if it wasn't for the goarls who made him good.

As for the lack of female minions, I know that the real life reason why there aren't any is because this movie was made back when people's mindsets were "there can't be something feminine in a product Targeted at boys" I'd say the withing universe reason why there aren't any is because I don't think minions reproduce, they seem to be immortal, so they don't need to create offspring and thus they don't even have sexual organs (but they do have buts and while I don't find that amusing it actually makes sense) so I would argue minions are genderless, yes they are always referred to as "he/him" but only by English speakers, how do we know they aren't using genderless pronouns in minionese? If there were never any genders to begin with, I don't think they would develop gender specific pronouns. But that's just my interpretation

Just finished the video (curse buffering) but I genuinely want to see you do an analysis of Gru and Dru's (the brother I think that's his name) parents and how abusive they were and what would happen if they were raised by the other parent. Originally, it was implied in the original movie that Gru and Dr. Nefario made the minions as seen by having blueprints around the lab pertaining to the biology (and making) of the minions. This was even followed up on with a Universal ride(?) where the riders are turned into minions (imply this is how Gru got his minions) before they’re turned back into humans (much to the minions and Gru’s disappointment). Of course, the minions movie seemingly contradict this by giving us their amoeba-based origins, but it’s also believed that both of these origins could be true since there are seemingly more minions in the Despicable Me movies than in the Minion movies
