people thought the lego movie was anti-business? Did they watch the movie? did they realize that president business was just the child's representation of his control freak father, and that the film was about promoting creativity? Or did they just read "the villain has 'business' in his name" and dedicate the two functioning brain cells they had to making a ruckus about it?

I thought over sensitive parents interfering with the media died down in the 2000s, with the 2010s equivalent being SJWs. As much as I _hate_ SJWs, I don’t hate them as much as over sensitive parents because kids deserve to be challenged, it’s what helps them grow. Sure, there _are_ examples where it’s taken _way_ too far (like Ringing Bell, though that movie has its cake and eats it too), or movies that are dark for the sake of being dark or try to be both dark and lighthearted and fail and only prove these idiots points (like The Nutcracker 3D).

I'm not going to shelter them all their lives until they start school, because then they'd run the risk of suddenly being bombarded with all this violence that they've never seen before in their lives. That would probably traumatize a kid, or worse. So that's why I'll start off with baby steps, and progress from there.

He regains consciousness and starts giving Belle shit about the incident before and she has none of it! Then both calm down and Beast let her treat his wounds without bitching...😝 I know, it's not close from what you described but this scene always impressed me. Its like ten minutes but it contains more badassery and character development than the whole Minions movie!

You need quality entertainment to show them what art is and what putting love into your craft looks like. Second, just because it's a kid's movie DOES NOT mean it has to be bad! Look at the work and care Jim Henson put into all of his projects? He never put pretty colors on screen just to make kids pay attention for five minutes. He actually knew what it meant to make something that children can watch and be inspired by.

I honestly feel kinda bad for animators at illumination. They clearly have talent, they can make some pretty visuals and lively animations but they're robbed by poor writers due to the companies bad directors, and are also weighed down by low budgets compared to pixar. I feel like the illumination team with new writers and a not so stingy lead director, could really do amazing things.
@b3rz3rk3r95 жыл бұрын
Well, Illumination is one of the worst mainly for what they do: they make Cheap and Safe movies to get the most out of so little effort. The first Despicable Me actually did have a little care and heart, while they gave FAR less effort to every other movie. They give more effort into researching how to pander to the Lowest Common Denominator abd advertising than into the true film. With such knowledge, their films mostly feel so clinical, as if it they were made by an algorithm.

27:00 This little speech really means so much. I remember when I was a kid, I watched animated films just to laugh or to pass the time. For a lot of time, but i saw people on the internet praise a movie called "Spirited Away" and I was immediately pulled in by the animation and aesthetics. I had a chance once to watch the movie, and I when I did, I fell in love with it. Everything is made with so much heart, and what you said "when a kid feels a connection with a film, thats when they transition to a person", even tho i'm a 18 year old dude, somehow I still feel a connection with Chihiro. Everytime I watch that movie I cant help but cry. All i'm saying is that movies with heart, for kids, matter so much, and i'm scared they will ever stop making them, I but I hope for the best.

Landa I had a similar experience with Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke. The animation and story pulled me in, and by the end I was completely engaged by the characters and their interactions, and I was able to care about what was happening. When I finished watching it, I felt as if I was a changed person. That’s the magic of animation. It can make you care for something that doesn’t even exist. It’s beautiful. That’s why Princess Mononoke is my favorite movie. No, it’s probably my favorite piece of art I’ve ever seen.
@Reckno645 жыл бұрын
I feel you dude. I worry about that too, but as long as companies like Pixar and DreamWorks exist, alongside Studio Ghibli and some other small studios that produce works of art like Laika, the good stuff will still exist. :) I just hope Illumination doesn't set the norm for animated movies to be silly, cheap, and fun yet make as much if not more than the actual good animated films.....

Lauren210 check out the video called “how rugrats killed disney 2d animation” by rebeltaxi since that video explains about how the cheaply made 2d animated films based on popular cartoons at the time and that was also the time when cg animated films were new and exciting but then they got overshadowed by cg animation due to the over saturation of those films i mentioned. and also not just that but another reason i think that also killed 2d animation in theaters is how poorly treated they were when it comes to marketing and scheduling like the infamous example is the beloved classic, the iron giant didn’t do well at the box office because executives didn’t even bother to advertise it and the princess and the frog was well received and did ok at the box office but not a gigantic hit since it came out at the wrong time since it was released before the highest grossing movie of all time, james cameron’s avatar. so yeah that’s why i think 2D and hand drawn animation died out in theaters here in the u.s. and as i wanted to be a writer, director, animator and artist. i am also one of those people that wanted to bring back hand drawn animation since CGI animated films are not that special anymore. and i also wanted to bring animation to more genres outside of comedy. like horror, drama, action, thriller, etc. into mainstream. and i also wanted to stand out from the crowd edit: the last 2d animated film we saw from disney is Winnie the Pooh and it faced stiff competition to harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2. so they give up on hand drawn and move on with cg. edit #2: i am not against Pixar or Dreamworks, i loved Pixar and liked Dreamworks. i am just saying that i loved 2d hand drawn animation way more than CG animation, same goes to stop motion animation

That's one of the two reasons I vastly prefer anime over western 2D and 3D animation; it's more like Western live action, in that content for _all_ ages is produced and coexists for any audience to find and watch what suits it. Western 2D and 3D animation, on the other hand, is made for kids and adolescents. And that's it. Yes, *_RARE_* exceptions, sure, but generally that's it. (The other reason is that I just don't really like most Western 2D and 3D animation styles.)

Gems? Coco and Inside Out? Really? While the animations, designs and everything visual is good, they have the safest stories ever with tropes we've seen millions of times already and characters we've seen thousands of times. Inside Out tries to be smth new, but in the end it's the same thing we've seen already. I'm not saying they're bad, but they're not the movies most people will be talking about in 5-10 years (smth like Lion King, Monster Inc etc). It will be mostly "Oh those movies were a thing"

True story. I watched this movie in a theatre, and it was one of the most painful movie experiences I had in a theatre that year (even it it didn't even make my top 10 worst films list -- I did see 125 movies that year including, "50 Shades", "Fant4stic", "Unfriended", "Jupiter: Ascending", "Hot Pursuit", "Vacation", "Pan", "Jem and the Holograms"... gawd, what an awful year). However, what made this particularly painful was that after the movie ended, one of two the mid to late teen girls who were behind me says: "That was WAY better than 'Inside-Out'!" I never knew that the slow-head-turn-of-disbelief thing was actually a thing until I did it to them right then and there.

I went to my four-year old neice's birthday party last summer. The party was minion themed, and we watched the minion movie. Of course it was awful, but my neice liked, and I love her so I didn't say anything. But then we got to the dancing guard scene and I made a joke to my cousin (who's the same age as me) about how stupid it was. And he got mad at me, and said that the minion movie was his favorite kids movie. WHAT THE F*CK! out of all of the brillant and creative kids movies ever made; The Lion King, Wall-e, How to Train Your dragon, this was his favorite. I love my cousin but sometimes I worry about him.

The dumbest thing about this movie is they have been created since the beginning,but in one of the shorts there was a video that said Gru made them. The other is that Gru looks older despite being younger in DM1 and that was before he became bad guy. Minions is just trying to confuse kids and thinks we are stupid. I think it should have been a short film for Despicable Me 3 where we see Gru creating them. THE END

Puss wasn't comedic relief. He was a fleshed out character that stood out the same way as Shrek and Donkey. It would make sense that he got something. The Penguins in Madagascar are close to the same thing, too, and they worked well, but they also had their own character. If your only trait is being the relief, you shouldn't be a main character.

As a Christian myself, I find it hilarious how they get so worked up over violence. It's like, have you even READ the Bible recently? There's more extremely detailed and horrific violence in there than a decade's worth of horror movies combined.
@singletxguyforfun26827 жыл бұрын
The old testament has some pretty brutal elements. But why just pick on Christians? I'm pretty sure most parents, regardless of their race, religion, creed, don't want their kids watching gratuitous violence in TV and movies.

I agree as a fellow Christian. Paranoid soccer moms get so worked up about very minor things in entertainment, but remember how many wives King David had? Or how brutal Jesus’s crucification was? How about all the wars mentioned in the Bible?

Little off topic but now that you mention it people should write a(modern) horror movie inspired by the bible. (Not based since Christians would protest and atheist would scoff) It really would be neat

The saddest thing about the whole minion thing is (in my personal opinion), that the first movie was actually likeable. There are nicely made, can-be-likeable characters, that might have simple designs, but the design kind of works for all of them. Minions were actually just a filler, a cute, funny, chubby caracters that lot of people like to see in the animated movies, like in treasure planet there is that pink, lil' fella. It is just the filler, that adds visually to the story. Adds something small. People liked minions when they were just a bunch of cute characters added to Despicable Me (1). They were simple, just as their role in the movie. They weren't too cute, they were actually well-dosed (if you know what I'm trying to say), but then, as the producers saw that Minions are a sure thing that brings them money, they started giving us more. And more. And then they tried to showe it in our faces. And that mede everyone hate them. So.. yeah..
