There are two measurement ranges beacuase precision depends on how big the measure itself is: if you measure the length of a table you'd expect to have a precision in the order of centimeters (as well as the error of the measure), but if you measure the distance between earth and moon you cannot expect to have the same precision. Hope that clears your doubt!

Before measuring components in circuit, you would need the schematic to understand what else may affect your reading. HOWEVER, you could measure voltage drop across components and that would help in repair of electronic devices. I wonder if the basic parts of the smart tweezers are cross compatible with the soldering iron they produce. I'll watch the alligators swim by when Eta stops by this weekend. Thanks for the video Paul, have a peaceful weekend.

When I was doing surface mount work at the last company I worked for, we bought digital tweezers however, they were very accurate and cost about $700.00. The reason they cost so much is that they came with a calibration certificate that was National Bureau of Standards certified for industry standards. We used them to match filter capacitors and boy did they help. Matching capacitors with other methods just never worked for us. So, if you need real accuracy, you need to spend a lot of money. But for the hobbyist, these may work okay.

It's a neat idea but just too finicky for me or you I guess? 😁 Thanks for sharing and a 100K is just around the corner!

I think it's a useful tool. I particularly like to use mine to check smt LEDs before adding to a PCB. I think the device is worth the money if you use surface mount parts.

Hello friends, Neat tool. If not so finicky, I would pick up a pair. Comment: I use 1% tolerant smd resistors, and the caps are from 10 to 20% tolerant. Of note, the 10K and 31.6K pair of resistors are the voltage divider for the feedback for the boost converter. If the resistors were as off as measured in the video, the boost convertor would be out of its 5V output, which it is not (see Pauls older video on the flashlights). Therefore, I attribute the discrepancy to an in-circuit measurement issue.

Measuring in circuit is notoriously unreliable...

@@andymouse as an award winning electronic engineer I know that. 😉 the point is that sometimes you get a reasonable result, many times you don't, so the result is not reliable. But thanks for the input.

@@andymouse calm down fella. There was nothing wrong with what I wrote. If you measure in circuit you can't rely on the result to be correct. A fact that anybody with basic comprehension skills would have understood from my comment. So your comment was redundant. You were just trying to be a smart ass (a trait you carried over into your second reply). Have a thoroughly unpleasant day.😉

Glad you did this video. Sure seems like an overpriced, not very accurate, hard to use and finicky piece of gear. Some of the results were 11% or more out of expected measurement, which is almost as good as eyeballing voltage on a battery. Saves me considering it. But, for $60.00+ I could likely get 3 or 4 cheap multimeters plus a file to make the probes pointier and average the reading just as easy.
