I couldn't get the win8 driver to work on the laptop but the win7 driver worked well on my PC. Thanks for posting. All worked well.

Yeah, getting windows 8 to work is a real pain. I don't have access to a Windows 8 computer to make a tutorial unfortunately. Glad you got it all worked out in the end though :)

I have an x7 mini and found that your steps are the best out there, so thanks. Problem with mine is that it was stuck at the Minix boot screen, so I followed your steps to get it back alive again and use it for XBMC. However, the next time I went to use it, a week later, it was stuck on the Minix boot screen again. I figured that I would wipe and reload once more before giving up on it.

Any chance to have any of these firmwares flashed into a Beelink GT1 tv box? (different brand) I am getting one of these, and I am just curious if this would work or not.. (I already own a Minix, and loved the interface.. that's the main reason to ask you about it.)

Hi Cleiton, Sorry but the Minix firmware is specific to each model and can't be used on an other box without modification. There's other launchers you can install/buy on the play store that will work with any Android box, most have free samples to try so have a play around and you should find something that suits you Hope that helps!

Hi great video. Will the above method work on WIN 10? I tried it with my x7mini but could not update the drivers in Device Manager and kept on showing as an unrecognized USB device. Win XP, 7, and 8 only included.

Thanks for the video! I am trying to connect my Neo X7 to the pc such as you do, but unfortunately nothing happens. I have no idea why my PC does not recognize my X7; I also tried a few different cables and it still hadn't helped. Please let me know if you have any idea what shall I need to do.

Did you install the driver first? Follow Parotec IT's instructions on how to install the driver. Then go to Device Manager and see if you see Rocksub device and if you do see it then the driver was successfully installed and your computer does recognize it. If you just open My Computer, you will not see your Minix there. Afterwards, follow his instructions by going to the extracted folder and click on the FlashTool.exe (or BatchTool.exe for the Kitkat 250 upgrade).

What @Kate Lin said :p. Also, you need to make sure to use the USB cable provided with the X7 (about 3:30 in the video) as the connector is longer than an average micro USB cable. Let me know if you're still stuck and we'll find the solution!

Hi, Sorry you’ve run into some problems with the update! I just downloaded the file using the same link. The firmware isn’t in a folder like it is in the video, the firmware file is on the surface and is the one called ‘x7-rk3188-240.img’ Hope this helps, and if you’re still stuck let me know!

I just bought the x8. I have never updated my x5. just because of this damn hassle. Even though I think my x5 needs it. I cant connect a bluethooth keyboard which works everywhere else on all different OS, even BB. I wanted to replace my old desktop from 06, that draws at least 70 Watts with 5 Volts. I hope surfing will be fast enough on the x8.

There are other (unofficial) ways to upgrade the devices if you search the forums, but I've had mixed results so i tend to not recommend them. Fortunately the X8s' update OTA, Minix are sending out the first update in the next couple of weeks and it really improves performance. The X8 is a big step ahead of the X5, i think you'll really enjoy the upgrade. Strange that the Bluetooth remote will work on everything but the X5, maybe the original firmware doesn't have recent enough drivers?

Parotec IT yes, my issues with the bluetooth keyboard and freezes in the browser make me wanna update the x5. I am downloading the rar as we speak. The x8 should come in in the next 2 days, Im gonna try the bt keyboard on that one first before I update the x5. I'll let you know what happens.

Parotec IT You are right, the x8 is a real step up from the x5. Browsing is a lot faster. It takes about a second to load a page, no more than 2. My bluetooth keyboard was recognized right away, thankfully. This means that I am gonna flash the firmware of the x5. I got a Black Friday deal for 99 euros, the x8-h costs 155 euros. I am not gonna pay an extra 56 euros for an H that I dont need!

Parotec IT In your vid you use a usb cable with two full size connectors. The minix only came with a mini usb to usb cable. Can I use that instead? Also, the mini usb connector on the cable is the special long one, like the one on the osg cable. Well, at least I have already unrarred the file......

Hi, thank you for the great video! I've done up to the point of flash tool where all my connected devices icons are grey instead of No. 1 turning green. I've uninstall and reinstall the driver twice and it's still the same. Any solution to go about this?

Try opening the flashtool first and then connecting the minix. Remember to connect it with the minix in recovery mode with the reset pin held down

tried both with reset pin held down, 1) opening flashtool -> powering the minix 2) powering the minix -> opening flashtool still to no avail but device manager recognised the rockusb device. any other suggestions?

I just checked it out on the X8-H. It wont install from the play store but if you download the APK then the app seems to fun fine. However i'm in England so i cant actually view any channels as it's region locked.

You can, but the stock firmware will restore the Minix to factory conditions, so you'll loose root access.

Simas Kasputis the X5's and X7's both got updated to Android KitKat recently so i updated the links. The tutorial will still work but now you just have to run the 'RK_DriverAssistant' instead of manually installing the driver as shown in the video. Everything else is exactly the same. I'm planning to make a new video soon showing the new method.

Iñigo Sánchez Santesteban No problem :), sounds like the Minix isn't in recovery mode. Try pressing and holding the recovery button before plugging in the USB , then add the power. Keep hold of it for 30 seconds or so, It should then come up in the the batch tool?

Iñigo Sánchez Santesteban Yeah i only need to hold the recovery button for a couple of seconds as i do in the video, but every computer is different so it may be slightly delayed for some reason. And you shouldn't need to hold the power button too, just a couple seconds to make sure. Let me know how it goes :)

+Del tweedie Just ebay 'extra long connector Micro USB' or something along those lines, the pin head needs to be 8mm long. These cables arn't unique to Minix. Sorry you've run into a fault with the Minix. Does the Blue LED on the front still light up?

Fortunately the blue led still lights up and keeps burning. So maybe not all is lost. Can I try a reset with a paperclip?

Yeah, press the reset button as it's powering on. They can sometimes get stuck like that when they're left powered off for a while. It's only a soft reset so you won't be wiping all the data Let me know how it goes

I get a recovery module when I start up while pressing the reset pin. The first option "reboot" doesn't work. It wont start up, it just stays in a loop of power on/power off. The screen stays black. The second option is reboot with ADB. I don't know what that means and haven't tried it yet. There are about 5 more options to choose from. The option "factory reset" is probably the one I want do do. I have never updated my x5 . What do you recommend?

It's probably best to try following the video to update the firmware and perform a factory reset that way. But it's worth trying the 'factory reset' option first as it may be a quick fix Let me know how it goes

i got it done and i used : www.freak-tab.de/wasser/RKBatchTool.zip www.freak-tab.de/wasser/wasser-3.0.6-minix-x7-rk3188.7z Ofcourse you need 7-zip to unpack it.. untill you got the wasser-3.0.6-minix-x7-rk3188.img. (do not unpack the img file ! ) unpack the RKBatchtool.zip ( here are your drivers ) in a folder on your pc. Follow this video and use the RKBatch drivers. install the RKBatch.exe and exec. the program. load the wasser-3.0.6-minix-x7-rk3188.img . again media player off . again mediaplayer resetbutton (keep pressed) and power adapter in. keep the reset pressed... and press on button. Your RKBatch prograam will see the media player. Start update/upgrade with the RKBatch tool. Be very pacient !! the media player will start itself after update. Can take upto 15 minutes !! This should do it. you have android 5.1 lollipop.

My box i got from china was cheaper, works better, and also i have no problem finding drivers and firmware, the minix x5 box well it runs like shit, it will freeze it will restart, and try and find a working driver and firmware for the minix because nothing ends up working. how sad that a cheap box from china works better then a real company box

+Adam Zawadzki Unfortunately the X5 is starting to show its age a bit now that it's 3 years old. All the newer boxes update online and don't have the driver issues like the older boxes do. That being said i still use an X5mini for Kodi and find it stable, just quite slow. I should point out that Parotec are distributors and aren't employed by Minix, if we didn't like them we wouldn't sell them.
