It makes sense, really. Minks are tenacious, agile, and sleek-bodied. The cat was clearly having trouble getting a solid bite on it, especially since it was hanging just off its snout while clawing at its face. When it's a question of food, any predator will give up a potential meal that looks to be more trouble than it's worth. The cat may very well have been able to "win" if it had kept at it, but would have expended so much energy struggling and sustained so many injuries (even if largely superficial, they add up in the wild) in the process that the sustenance it would have gotten from eating the mink wouldn't have been worth it. Everything is a risk-reward ratio in predation.

People who do not know much about Minks (which are MOST people...some good examples are in this comment section), totally underestimate their defensive fighting skills, tenaciousness, and pound for pound superiority. All predatory animals in the wild hunt for prey that can be killed fairly easily without too much risk of injury to themselves. For a cat this size, taking on a mink might win him a meal, but cost him his life in the long run. The CAT WAS SMART ENOUGH to realize this before sustaining too much injury, and he backed off...regardless of WHETHER OR NOT YOU PEOPLE ARE SMART ENOUGH to ascertain the situation. And NO, it had nothing to do with any odor the mink used...it had to do with the cat having his face chewed off bit by bit! Oh, and as for some other footage of this cat actually winning the fight...produce the footage - either put up or shut up!

MrDenizen The mink's fur undoubtedly helped protect it from the bobcat's raking. If you look at the snow, there's no blood; minks and other weasel family creatures have thick, plush fur, sort of like an otter. It's so they can swim without freezing or sinking. It can also protect their skin, which is already pretty tough to begin with, since they hunt animals like muskrat, rats, and rabbits, who are known for their nasty bites. So that mink's biggest worry while it still had the strength to fight was being crushed by the cat's jaws, so it spun around like mad and bit the bobcat's face a lot. In the end, the cat probably decided the little psycho was too much punishment for not enough food! XD

Your intelligence is about equal to a house cat, so you at least have that going for you. But you are still quite the moron. Domestic cats are a nuisance animal and their population needs to be greatly thinned out in developed countries, that is a fact. The best thing we all can do is to trap them and humanely kill them. I do this quite frequently myself and it is very beneficial for the environment. I have trapped somewhere between 40 and 45 cats in the last 7 or 8 years in my backyard. I made a special airtight box that I put them in and I have a hose which I attach to the tailpipe of my car. It works very well, and I'm sure even you would agree that this is the best way to eliminate these nuisance animals so they will not destroy the native animals.

That is a Bobcat. Canada Lynx has shorter tail, less distinct spots, MUCH bigger ear tufts, leg length to the point of looking downright awkward, and the hind quarter difference compared to the front is not something easily missed. That is an OBVIOUS bobcat. Not even close. And to the other two arguing on here: yes, a bobcat is technically a type of lynx. Colloquially though, "lynx" refers to the Canada Lynx in North America, not to bobcat.

The Lynx/Bobcat clearly breaks the Mink's back. It is unable to move it's back legs after that and is just lashing out with it's front legs while it's back legs can't operate. Before they cut to the edited clip of it running away - with clean fur despite being covered in snow from the tussle - you can see it lying there basically defenseless screeching at the cat. The cat backs off to avoid the teeth while it waits for the Mink to die....Sad but true....At 0:56 you can hear the spine break.

Especially since cat bites are particularly infectious even if it doesn't bleed out from internal punctures. Most birds that escape a cat after being wounded die from infection rather quickly.

Sorry to burst your guys' bubbles, but that mink did not survive. As others have pointed out, it took mortal wounds here. You can hear bones crunching at 0:57. The clip at the end of the mink running away is just cut from earlier footage before the encounter. Nature is too brutal for happy, feel-good documentaries.

The mink was too tough to be preyed upon. It fights back, and the Lynx disengages. You can hear the mink squawking, so it was still alive when the lynx left. If it was badly wounded, the Lynx would have finished it off and made a meal, instead of leaving.

+Conrad Verner This is not Hollywood its the wild Life! At sec 0:08 the Mink is really close to the camera the video gets cut and the mink is really far at 0:11 (edited) at sec 58 the cat snap the mink's back turn up the sound you can heard it. After that the mink goes crazy aggressive bites the cat in the face the cat gives up, the mink can't jump properly for the rest of the video until they fix it (edited) the last scene is what they cut off on 0:08-0:11 the mink trying to get away from the cat before the fight started. Nice touch by the producers for the plastic perfect world we live in!

Expensive meal! That mink, if it loses, will inflict serious injuries to the cat. In nature, not so serious injuries can result in infection and predation by other critters. Good video capture, but I suspect that cat had not come across a mink before and you can see that in the initial engagement, it is considering a retreat as it perform internal math on the damage it might sustain. What was really surprising was that the mink didn't pursue the cat as the cat disengaged. Minks are link natures kill bags... give them half a chance and they will take a chunk out of you.. cute and cuddly looking aside...

Candid i got you on Street cat but a owl cannot in any way 1v1 a mink, this is obviously what your opinion is and what you think not facts, a mink if grabbed by a owl can just roll over and start biting him or flee. You obviously do not know about this stuff and confuse facts for what you think. Please read more and look at facts as this is blatantly false. This comment was purely annoying to me as you know nothing about this whatsoever.

Dumbass. Mink are so nimble amd ferocious. I highly doubt any house cat or tom cat could kill a mink. A lynx or bobcat would make an easy snack of a tom cat/house cat and you just watched this video of a lynx/bobcat trying to kill a mink and failed... walked away... but a tom cat can? Lmao. Good joke! Also.... minks kill muskrats, much, MUCH bigger than any rat.. a cat would likely be badly hurt trying to kill a muskrat but the mink kills them for lunch. Check out "joseph parker the mink man" Weasal family are badass. Seen a Tasmanian devil or something from the weasel family trying to kill am elk, was all over it, biting it to shit. Video is on youtube somewhere. Check out honey badgers too.

I think its funny that almost every breed of terrier could kill this mink in seconds yet a bobcat can't at all?
@lmaoparkes31996 жыл бұрын
Most preadators in the wild just wont risk an injury that could debillitate them in any way . Im assuming the mink had a good hold on the cats nose and thought fuck this shit aint worth the hassle ! A terrier has been bred with no fear, safe in the knowlledge that its going home to a nice bowl of pedigree chum and a warm bed, or wost case scenario a trip to the vet to deal with any sustained injury that could otherwise result in severe infection or possibly a fatal one if it were a wild animal !!
