@jasonberryman10352 жыл бұрын
Depends on the species of marten. Beech and yellow throated martens sometimes hunt cats due to being bigger and more aggressive than pine martens such as this one but yes wild cats and sometimes domestic cats will kill pine martens from time to time if it comes down to an altercation. Cats are fierce fighters.
@MrHighAnxiety633 ай бұрын
@@jasonberryman1035 You have nothing of credible stature that beech and yellow-throated martens hunt cats. It's all anecdotal. Further, what do you mean being bigger and more aggressive? A yellow-throated marten can get up to 15 lbs according to some sources while other sources will claim 12 to 13 lbs. A big male tomcat can likely get up to 20 to 25 lbs. So, where the hell are you getting this "bigger" from? And, insofar as aggressiveness? Yeah, let's see you try to handle a big feral tomcat and why don't you proceed to tell us how aggressive it was.

Hi, Looking for some info, I have a Pine Marten friend, I call him Guy. He has been visiting me every night since spring, to the point I could film him within 2 feet, he has given my fingers a quick sniff once but generally he ignores me sitting quietly watching. I leave him a small jam piece, an egg and some fruit n nuts, which he seems to relish. .... However, for 2 weeks he has suddenly been absent, I'm so sad and worried. there is a pair cats local to me but they usually ignore each other, could it just be there is pleny food about? Do they uaually visit less at this time of year? I dont want to give up hope just yet :(
@scottishpinemartens84613 жыл бұрын
Hello. I know your pain. Over the last few years, despite visiting me every night without fail, one of my chums has sometimes gone missing for up to two weeks or more. It is usually during the summer, but my regulars have always returned. Sometimes it is because a female is otherwise occupied with her kits, but males also go missing. I have now ceased to worry. I have assumed it is often because they have an adequacy of proper food (there is a superabundance of rowan berries in Scotland at the moment), but lately it is probably because of cats. They don't seem overly bothered with their presence, but they do seem to avoid close contact (within a couple of metres) if possible (i.e. if they are not too hungry). There is usually an exchange of growling between them but nothing more serious. Another reason for a particular marten to go awol is the presence of another marten. Sometimes they are the best of pals, other times they cannot stand each other. Young martens will also be 'encouraged' to move away when they get to a certain age by their mother.

@@jannetteberends8730Well, food is more available to wild animals and birds at spring, in summer or Autumn. If you feed them all year, they will become too dependant on supplies and lose their abilities to gather food by themselves.
