I just have to tell you, I replaced my trim motor without watching your video and had a problem. I watched your video and immediately realized that I did not do the procedure to pair the new trim motor to my trolling motor. I did what you did and it worked perfectly. You saved me countless hours of taking it apart and putting it back together only to figure out that I probably still had not done the right thing. Incidentally the reason my trim motor went bad was because I had a broken output collar on the steering motor. I had to take the steering motor apart to replace that collar. That was a major pain. But it all worked out thanks to your video. Thank you!

Great video.. I had a kid with his dad's Wake boat to run past me. Maybe 15-20 yards at most . That 5ft wave came over the stern and actually sank and capsized my bass boat. It was older 1994 Astro but still ... So my trolling motor was down and the motors trim module head was under water till noon the next day before we got it back right.. So I bought another boat and I put this Ulterra on it.. it actually ran flawless for about a month... Or after the insurance check was deposited...lol It totally stopped working... I have a new control board in it but not operating.. So I ordered a trim module and Steering module.. Pulled all wiring out of it completely rewired the complete unit. Cleaned and sanded the motor armature for the prop sanded the brushes , So I should hopefully have a brand new ulterra today.. Waiting on parts to come... Really was a good video I appreciated it a lot. There just is no Ulterra fix it anywhere on the internet.. As finicky as these are you'd think there would be a bunch of them...

Thanks again Jason for a clearly described instruction. My problem at the moment is finding what my serial number and what model of riptide I have. I have never used it and have no experience with any model so hopefully this will at least give me an insight into what to expect in future. What I did notice was that there are sidep[anels which look easy to remove and I read somewhere on minn kota website that the serial number might be behind one of these panels. Not sure though, so again, thanks for your guidance and if you do happen to know where the serial number is, I would appreciate the knowledge. So far, all I can see is Minn Kota Riptide and on the website there are only Riptide with model names that I cannot find. e.g. Riptide Ulterra or simply an Ulterra model which is confusing to me. Whatever, I thank you again for taking the time to show what can happen in the future. Stay safe Jason.

Nomad thanks again for watching the great comment! Yes your serial number should be on the inside of the chassis the left or right side just under the motor ramps that it sits on in the stowed position.. shouldn’t need to remove anything to see it.. thanks again for watching! I know it’s been so long since I posted anything! Hopefully I’ll be back at now.. but this virus has everything all crazy right now.. hope you and your family stay safe!

Rip tide simply means salt water rated.. and can be in many models.. and they are white..mine is just a normal ulterra.. “fresh water “ and painted black.. yours might either be a terrova or a power drive if it’s an electric steer.. if it deploys itself like mine .. it’s a rip tide ulterra..

@@ReelLifeFisherman Thanks for replying mate. I looked already at all the external visual areas that is possible to see. The motor is lying in my garage and has no indications of any serial numbers etc. I'm busy trying to find a possible manual that came with the motor, so far no luck. @@ReelLifeFisherman I replaced my trim module and still had issues with it only go up 6” and down about 4”. Completed all the steps 2 to three times. The remote and the TM didn’t match on motor trim height. I found that holding both the up and down trim buttons on the remote at the same time allowed me to raise and lower the motor the full trim cycle. After I got it up and stowed I was able to synch it again and haven’t had any issues. I think my original problem started when the TM started and update when hooked to my phone when I was using it to spot lock. After the update the TM went dead, wouldn’t raise, lower or stow. In the middle of trying to figure all that out one of the gears in the trim motor stripped out. I replaced trim motor and ordered the parts to repair the old one and have for a spare. Thanks though for the great video again

Thanks for these. I hope I never need it, but love that it’s here if I do. Took my explorer on it’s maiden voyage the other day, and everything worked great! I sure wish I saw your other vid mentioning the need for a second wiper before ordering it though. If you ever put one in, it would be awesome if you did one of these videos! I stuck a hydrofoil on the plate, it’s not the prettiest but she doesn’t porpoise. Next winter I may decide to put some trim tabs on as well.
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks glad you like the video! Awesome you got to take her out! I will absolutely be doing the video for the wiper install as well as any other upgrades or repairs or service work .. basically if it’s work I’m doing and it’s not at my shop.. I will be filming it! Lol.. my poor trim tabs keep getting pushed down the list of things I need unfortunately! Because it’s more of a want than a need.. the boat does 40mph all day without Porpoising so for now I’ll just have to live with it.. also it will help keep it from leaning left on plane due to kicker ,batteries ,and passengers.. my next upgrades will most likely be a bait tank install on the offshore bracket.. and the passenger wiper.. so stay tuned for that.. thanks again for watching and commenting! Thanks for another great step by step video. I'm getting ready to purchase a trolling motor but I'm torn between the Ulterra and Terrova. I really like the added features of the Ulterra, but am hesitant because of the similar problems people seem to have. I'm putting this on a Northriver seahawk, so if I can avoid having to climb onto the front of the boat every time, the Ulterra is desirable. Not sure if its because a lack of preventive maintenance or design flaw. Your video pointed out the gasket correction Minn Kota has done, but is there anything owners can do to minimize the potential of problems with the motor? I saw one other video where it was mentioned to lubricate the belts and pivot pins. Thanks for your time and input.
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
Awesome glad you liked the video! Yes making sure to wash it off with fresh water and salt away after each use and spraying some lithium grease on the pivot points.. will help.. checking the belt tension from time to time.. etc. but the benefits far outweigh any potential mechanical issues that might happen.. I repair minn Kota trolling motors at my shop and I’m certified to do warranty work.. they don’t have as many issues as you might think.. and most of the time they are caused from human error like hitting rocks or trailers.. I have a thunder jet with a half hardtop.. and it’s awesome to leave the canvas closed up.. and I can get back on my troll way faster .. I use the bow mount for steering and heading lock.. and use the kicker to push.. GAME CHANGER! you won’t regret it I assure you.. let me know if you have any questions anytime! Appreciate you watching.. tight lines!

I am in the process of replacing my trim motor. Assy is on order now but it seemed you went through a press and hold process that I am not familiar with to get your tilt assy calibrated. Thanks for the very informative video, tar from NZ. We have nothing like this in our country, yes, we have the toys especially American stuff....but no backups, and certainly no service craftsmen. I've had a Minnkota ulterra ( the white model new 4 3yrs, but now has just developed deploy&retrieve problems) on an AMF 7.60 cabin trailer boat we use offshore on East coast NI . So are searching for any knowledge of how to keep it going. KZbin seems the only source. Minnkota just wants to sell you a new one.....with all the bells and whistles....and all the problems? The concept is out of this world, but the electronics are something else?

I removed the 4 screws to the trim unit but I can't get the two halves separated like you have. It feels like there's something else keeping it together. I want to separate it on the shaft to see inside but I'm afraid I'm gonna break something. How did you get yours separated?
@ReelLifeFisherman4 жыл бұрын
It’s just the top seal and the small belt that is there has to be removed ..and the ring on the bottom then you have to pull the two halves apart once you have the screws out.. they are a tight fit.. you may have to carefully pry them apart.. sometimes you can free the motor up and not have to replace it.. let me know if you have any questions.. thank for watching.. and hopefully you get it all fixed.. I know it’s frustrating..
@drdoutdoors16034 жыл бұрын
@@ReelLifeFisherman thank you, sir for the reply.. yesterday I just so happened to loosen the belt at the bottom and when I did that the two halves separated for me so the belt's tension or something was keeping it held together. But I got it!! The reason why mine wouldn't stow or deploy was because the red wire that is soldered onto the copper ring, I guess is what you would call it, there's a red and black wire, the red had broken off so I resoldered it and it's working fine again. Saved 300 bucks on that I just hope it lasts

Mine isn't very old with hardly much use on it.Turning it to the left is fairly quiet. But turning it to the right it is louder. Hell I've noticed other fishermen looking at me. When I turn it to the right. Is the turning sound difference normal for a Ulterra? From right to left that is
@ReelLifeFisherman3 жыл бұрын
No I can’t say I have ever heard one do that.. so if it’s that loud something might be wrong.. but it seems to steer just fine? And turns at the same speed right and left?
@BillSr.3 жыл бұрын
@@ReelLifeFisherman To me it seems very close in speed but it is a little slower. I will say the first trip out with it. The darn thing hit my roller on my boat trailer backing off the trailer. It is noticeably louder. It hit hard on the lower end of my trolling motor. Enough to knock the di transducer off center. I did put it back center later. So I'm thinking it might had done something to electric steering.
