Thank you for the great video showing the teardown. Just in case anyone else is in a similar situation as I was, where the steering motors inside the housing had died, but the other internals are in great shape. You can purchase replacement motors (part 2777063 for the 36v Terrova, but will fit perfectly in the Ulterra) at a fraction of the cost of a new housing. Simply take apart the steering housing by removing the allen screws, cut the two wires going to the existing blown motors and splice the new motor wires onto them, then swap the blown motors with the new ones and re-assemble. This ended up costing around $100 AUD, compared to $800 AUD for a replacement steering assembly shipped from the US.

New Sub! Awesome repair, surprised the unit broke being only 2 years old! Thanks for sharing and making this video to help others. I have the fresh water model. I thought you would have re-lubed the unit before reassembly? Its always nice to have a second hand! Did you have to fine tune the belt adjustment after re-installation on boat? Again, thanks for sharing, I saved this video for future reference. Tight Lines

Thx for the comments m8. I guess these things are constantly moving and I do get a lot of use out of mine, I,ve never actually used the metal anchor in the boat, i,m on my third year and about to replace the trim unit a year after the steering unit, it works ok but i have to push start it to get it to deploy, I think some cogs inside are not happy. I bought a replacement unit Wich I am waiting to arrive and then will look into the old one to see what it was. The belt adjustment was easy enough with the Allen key. There's not much to lube in the steering unit assembly unless you are talking about the belt, this is easily done with some silicon spray.

Did you need to reset or relearn and of the stowing/trim functionality after you replaced it?
@Aucklandsaltwaterflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
From memory I didn't have too. the belt was in the same position in relation to the trim unit when I reassembled it.

I understand that these steering motors go out pretty often can you just rebuild it or do you need to just keep replacing it
@Aucklandsaltwaterflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
To be honest if you are in the states it would be quicker and easier just to replace it. To be clear my motor never went but was showing signs of weakness so I got before was an issue. My main issue was the slop in the shaft wich a new one fixed. Maybe just wear and tear on the bushes that the shaft go through. I still have to go through the old one so thanks for reminding me.
