Again another great video . Now I recently read a new interesting theory about the mycenaen takeover of crete. And says the following : After the thera erruption everything was caos in crete . And Knossos wanted regain its dominant position on the Island . And to do that . The ruler of knossos allied himself with citystates on greek mainland and hired mycenean mercenaries to help him . But that after the job was done . These mercenaries turned on Knossos and overthrow the King of Knossos . And after that they set themself up as the masters of Island / the new elite … So the theory says that the myceneans did not invade crete . They were invited in . But that they betrayed minoans and their leader took the crown of Knossos and crete for himself… And slowly the minoans started to dress like their new masters , worship their gods (Zeus ,athena, hera etc), speak their language and bury their in tholos tombs like on mainland , The minoans were helenized .. And slowly minoan culture and religion ceased exsist and was forgotten . And they became part of mycenean world … And the time of the trojan war . Greek language and religion had became dominant on crete …

Interesting story. It is also possible that the Mycenaeans incorporated some of the Minoan deities into their own religion. Crete is very prominent in Greek mythology, some of those stories certainly have origins in the Mycenaean interaction with the Minoans.

Firtst the God like Zeus, Hera,rea,da, Gaia is God of minoans. Only theory ? Mycenaeans and cretans were identical culturally , in fact we see from tombs etc that if someone influenced another was the advanced the cretans bringing their technology to their less advanced Mycenaeans . Pylos was in close contact with cretans / royals marriages with Cretan / ancient tombs with Cretan style findings excavated. They were same not “hellenised”…. Cretans “hellenized” most of the world they visited. As per language Mycenaeans and cretans used the same with cretans grammiki b / continuance of cretans grammiki a / the most ancient one in the area by carbon dating measurements

Makes plenty of sense that the Cretans would hire mercenaries from the Greek mainland, given that Crete is not a very warlike place (being fairly unified for most of its history).
