I’m pretty sure the reason why most speed runners pop their humanities at the fire link to New Londo ruins elevator is to slightly increase their luck chance for the attempt to get the black knight glaive…

Yes, the first humanity increases item discovery from 100 to 150. The second only takes you from 150 to 158

Black Knight Halberd has a 20% chance to drop at base 100 Discovery. Getting 1 Humanity boosts Discovery to 150 and increases the drop chance to 30% . Runners are waiting on the Elevator anyways, so it costs no time to increase the number of runs to continue past the Black Knight from 1/5th to 3/10th of runs started.

@@AbyssDark Fall damage works differently in DS2, in DS1/3 it's a percentage of your max health, and any fall that is survivable at 100% is survivable to any character at any equip load. Equip load changes how much of your health you lose, but the moment it reaches 20 units, it jumps to being an instant kill for any character.

im pretty sure the humanity use on the elevators in this route is still the same as it used to be, which is maximizing drop chance before you kill the halberd black knight. before moveswap glitches became popular BKH was the goto speedrun weapon, usually resets would occur here if you didn't get the drop.

To clarify about the humanity on the elevator to new londo ruins: the more humanity you have on the top-left counter (until 10) increases your chance of enemies dropping items. Its biggest use is on darkroot basin when you kill the black knight to drop his halberd. Also used to get the purple moss to remove the poison when red tear stone ring is active just before quelaag :D

Very enjoyable video. Glitchless speedruns are my favorite, so while I understand feeling more limited by them, I would be happy if you worked up the desire to do another one :) Swiping off a gargoyle's tail in one swing and then immediately pulling it out to beat both of them to death with it is one of the most metal plays I've seen recently.

5:30 The Reason why RTSR can cause more then a double damage increase is because of how Dark Souls 1's Defense Formula works for reducing damage, there is not 1 formula but 5 and the one used is based on the difference between the weapons attack total and the defenders defense total. This causes big damage boosts when players raise their attack enough to go up a step in defense calculations. Quick Example: New characters start with around 80~ attack and many enemies have around 100~ defense, putting the player in the second lowest formula and doing around 23~ attack damage. Using RTSR boosts the starting gear to around 120~ attack which is higher than the 100~ defense of many enemies, putting the player in the middle formula and doing around 59~ attack damage. The Attack Thresholds for the Formulas are: Attack > Defense*8 (Does 90% Attack Damage) Defense*8 > Attack >Defense*2.5 (Does around 75% Attack Damage) Defense*2.5 > Attack > Defense (Does around 50% Attack Damage) Defense > Attack > Defense*0.125 (Does around 25% Attack Damage) Defense*0.125 > Attack (Does 10% Attack Damage)

I'm not a speedrunner, but I think the humanity on the way down to New Londo Ruins is to put you back at full for some specific setup to get your health just right for RTSR. I've got no idea if that's actually the case, but it's the only thing I can think of that would only require 1 humanity.

While that is likely very helpful the main reason humanities are popped on the elevator is because having up to 10 humanity stocked increases the player's item discovery. Black Knight's Halberd is not a guaranteed drop and if it doesn't drop the run is dead 10 mins or so in. So anything that increases the chances of it dropping that also doesn't lose time is very welcome.
