The Minolta Autofocus 28mm f/2.8 Alpha Mount lens is one of the poster children for why a 28mm f/2.8 is a solid cornerstone for a camera kit from the first time someone buys a camera through, well, as good as they can get with their gear. A good, and this one is that, by the way, a good 28mm f/2.8 lens will perform reliably and deliver images that a photographer can be happy that they took. The complaints I could levy against the Minolta 28mm f/2.8 are minimal and mostly things like the focusing ring is small and the damping is laughable, but those are functions of the design aesthetic of the era. The aspects of this lens that matter - image quality, contrast, color, sharpness, aperture stars, and overall lens build are all, if not the best, then at the very best two or three of any 28mm lens I’ve reviewed so far.
