Don't often say this but really appreciated this video cause it was so in depth and informative for a beginner

Thank you! I work to make sure that these videos are accessible and helpful for people regardless of how familiar they are with cameras. It's always good to hear that's worked.

Agreed. This is my first camera after wanting to do this for ages and honestly, it helps me unpack how to approach the technology very easily.

I just found one of these at a pawn shop. I picked it up for some reason because I thought it looked so cool. This helped me understand what it is, and I am excited to learn more from part 2!

Found a like new x700 at a flea market for $40 and just spent $$$ on a like new x570. I reallly like the more pro manual mode and just one capacitor on the x570. The x570 also has center weighted metering. I’m shooting both with the minolta 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm f2 rokkor, and minolta 70-200 f4. I’m a pro portrait photographer who mainly shoots Sony full frame, but wanted a more organic experience!

I have personally left minolta X series cameras set for several years with batteries in them and the switch in the off postion and the batteries remained good.

It's fortunate that they didn't leak. The risk isn't discharge. The risk is a leak because battery alkaline material will travel up battery electrical lines and can cause the solder to weaken and disconnect it. Left long enough, alkaline can travel until it damages the circuits.

What you indicated was a cable release point is actually the flash sync port.

Hello! I've been looking to get into film and your channel has been super helpful. In your Minolta X700 video, you mentioned the different factories (Japan/China/Malaysia) which can be told apart by the base plate and have different reliability. Does the same also apply to the X500/570?
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
Insofar as I know, no. This camera was produced for a much shorter time than the X-700.

Hi David, I’ve watched quite a few of your videos recently while shopping for film cameras. I’ve just purchased a Olympus OM-1 and a Olympus Pen FT after seeing your videos. I felt more confident choosing those cameras. Your passion and love for these “mechanics marvels” shines through in all your videos and I have developed a fascination for film cameras in turn. I wish to ask for your advice between the Minolta 570 & Minolta 370 which would be a better purchase ? They cost almost the same. Thank you. Be well.
@DavidHancock3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! So they're different. I prefer the 570 but find the 370 to be a more streamlined experience. I prefer the 570 solely because I like the interface a bit more, not because it's better or anything like that. I also prefer the 570 to the 700.

@@DavidHancock David I just placed a purchase for the Minolta XD11. Apparently one off their last metal bodies off the line. It had aperture priority and an almost silent shutter. Did you review this ? I couldn’t find it on your channel. I’m going to use for a while and spring for the 570 as a second body later. What do you think about the XD11 ?

Yup. I forget exactly when they changed it, but probably around the time of this camera.

Hi! I'm new to film photography. If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by tripping the shutter button? Thank you!
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
That's just a way of saying pressing the shutter button so that the shutter fires.
@pi200ncosynot4 жыл бұрын
David Hancock I see. Thank you so much! Say, if I haven't finished the roll yet and I want to turn the camera off, I just have to press the shutter again after taking previous picture?

Hello, can this be used with shutter release cables & mechanical self-timers?
@BoxOfShockolates9 ай бұрын
Oh wow. I’m still watching the video. It has a self-timer built in. I’m a photography student starting on a Pentax k1000 lent by my college, and I recently purchased a self-timer to use. It’s nice to know this Minolta already has one.
@DavidHancock9 ай бұрын
Yes on the cable, same one as your K1000 would use. Enjoy! This is a very good first camera.
@BoxOfShockolates9 ай бұрын
@@DavidHancock cable as in shutter release cable? Sorry, I meant to specify that I’m referring to a mechanical self-timer that I purchased for the k1000 my school lended me. I like that the Minolta 570 has a timer built in. I appreciate your in depth video & the pointers you gave. That helps me, as I’m someone who is a beginner & still learning & don’t have the disposable $$$ to purchase a bunch of cameras for trail & error. I am a ways away from buying my own camera, b/c considering a brand is honestly overwhelming research & shopping around. I think k1000 & ae-1 by Pentax & canon are too expensive. So I’ve been looking at brands other than those. There are a lot of great features on Minolta 570. But the battery is my only concern. Having to take it out constantly. Also fear of electronics getting wet. Of course I wouldn’t submerse the camera, but I do live in the PNW. It’s really damp in fall & autumn, and I wouldn’t want drizzles potentially ruining the camera. The k1000 is doing ok with that so far. But it is more mechanical. Also another thing that worries me is that part you mentioned about not tripping the shutter. Seems like there are a lot little precautions to take that is a lot to take in 😭😭😭 sorry so late. I just really don’t like shopping around for cameras. Esp on a budget as a student.
