That rule apparently changed.... since my mom collected benefits for me, up until I was age 22. That was only as long as I stayed in school (college for instance). Had I graduated from Highschool and NOT went to an after Highschool school (like a college or technical type of school), her survivor benefits for me would have ended at age 18. Same thing for my sister, too.

This is slightly misleading at the end. I’m working „FT“ But I’m still making g less than the SS Max ($22,400). So I can get widows benefits. ❤

I am getting ready to retire next month. The amount I will get will not cover all my expenses as I still have a mortgage. I worked in a different country where I’m from, but I’m not allowed to claim money from there even though it’s not a lot to add to the Social Security, I earned here. any money I claim from that country will be deducted from my Social Security check here yet. A new law was passed. If you’re a federal worker, you can claim if you worked and earn Social Security before you worked as a federal worker without penalty that doesn’t seem fair yet they call it the fair plan. Can somebody explain that to me?

This is not new. My dad died in 1988 and I got SS for four months, which was when I graduated high school. It had been changed sometime in the mid-80s because I had a friend who was two years older who got a check as long as she was attending college. I’m okay with this. I had student loans, but so did a whole lot of students with two alive parents.

I thought when I reached 60 even though I’m working full-time, I could collect my dead husband’s benefits, but only get 71% of it once it reach the 22,000 mark it’ll drop me and pick me back up on the next year. Is that correct? Will not be married

My 83-year-old mother just passed away. The first of this year actually. My sister who is 60 has not been able to work for three plus years. Although she is disabled she is not on disability nor has she applied. She took care of my mother until she passed. She has no income she has no recent work history and has problems thinking, managing and functioning. There will be no place for her in the workplace. My question is can she collect on my mom's social security?

They actually will if the child was disabled before age 22.

Nobody is owed a college education. That is a personal choice and the government shouldn't subsidize an adult's expenses.

It was changed under Reagan who also increased the cost of college as the beginning of anti intellectualism for the masses

We didn't have showers for everyone in the past, and then someone said I don't want you to have a shower for your benefit. I want you to have a shower for my benefit. It is the same with education. I don't want you to have a college education for your benefit. I want you to have a college education so I don't have to pay for your mistakes.

Crazy people think their kids should get college paid for. Nobody paid for mine and I didn’t pay for my kids. I don’t believe in it. They should have to work for it themselves. However, kids from lower income families get free schooling anyhow from scholarships and such.

Are you paying for the prisons for people who didn't get a good education? Yes, you are paying much more.
