Having Mick Fleetwood seemed perfectly fitting to me, not random. He was immediately recognizable, and when he explained his history in the movie it made it seem like a future based on reality, not just a fictional future. Another interesting fact: Dynamo (played by Erland van Lidth) did not originally sing opera. This was added because van Lidth was a trained opera singer. The song he sings is a solo from the 3rd Act of The Marriage of Figaro, where the Count swears revenge against Figaro because he feels tormented that Figaro will have Susanna, who isn't interested in the Count. In its overarching meaning of revenge, it fits the scene in Running Man very well.

The book (short story) is so much better. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the movie at the time. But, in later life having read the story, on my mums recommendation, it is much darker. When I first heard of this movie, I was surprised to hear about Richard Dawson being in it. He was perfect for the role of Damon Killian, considering Dawson had then fairly recently come off of hosting Family Feud for about a decade. Aside from this film, his most notable acting role was as Corporal Peter Newkirk in the sitcom Hogan's Heroes. You'd never think a show set in a WWII prisoner of war camp could be funny, could you? It obviously worked, as it ran for six seasons.

Ironic - just last night I watched Total Recall, in which Arnold played what was supposed to be a weak, ordinary office cubicle worker. They changed it to a construction worker for the movie to explain why he was so big (did I learn this in a Minty video? Can't *recall*... ). It seems after he achieved superstar status, that once Arnold attached himself to a production he sort of took it over and everything had to be changed to fit around his persona. Script re-writes to add in his trademark one-liners, etc. Also, it sort of works that the movie feels like a TV show, since that's exactly what it was about - a show called Running Man.

This is one that could be remade to good effect. Darker, grittier, truer to the novel. A bit more blade runneresque perhaps.

A proper adaptation of the book would be awesome. Not sure the ending would exactly play well though in the US

No no no, the current SJW Hollywood would destroy the whole concept. Give it another 5 years so the current crappie crop has gone. Then, maybe.

I love the 80s Ahnuld cheese but the original sounds worth of a new adaptation.

Who here has read it? Been over 20 years since I last read it. English version is best.. Naturally but the Icelandic translation was my first... oh baby baby! What.. a book! Too much for T V S.King's best work imho. About 906.054.648.485 times better than "the librarian" or something.. where the old lady turns into a vacuum cleaner.. worst. Ever. Hahaha I could probably write an essay 20% of the books length in a few hours from memory. The Running Man. Top 3 books ever imho. Anyone read it? It starts with chapter 100 and counts Down. How far? Give it a chance.. if it sux in your humble opinion... I'll pour eleven buckets of ice water over me in 44 seconds. And eat a hat after it. and probably cry from shock and have a fit.. for your entertainment.

Random fun fact, the Actor who played buzzsaw, as big and strong as he was, was not able to lift the 25-30 pound chainsaw over his head.. I guess someone skipped Shoulder day!

Mike Bushnell must of all been pussies, unless that's without a full pack of bullets, which would make it pretty heavy

Mike Bushnell i know which he had on his back. Mind you Mac seemed to handle it alright in Predator and I swear they used that one in T2 too. Also the M16 with M203 he uses in Predator is the same one Tony Montana uses im Scarface

Also compare Running man to the German movie "Das Millionenspiel" made in 1970. You will find a lot of similarities.

I watched this movie for the first time yesterday...two days ago...I've watched it 3 times in the last 48 Hours. I think it's now my favorite Arnold movie or at least a close second behind Conan the Barbarian. Naturally I had to check to see if you'd done a video on it, you did not disappoint.

Coincidentally, Don Frye started as Haggard in a fan made Final Fight film, BROKEN GEAR. You can what it on KZbin.

@@ramonantoniobennett-ryuuke6301 I doubt very much that Mike Hagar is based on Don Frye or Dan Severn, considering the first Final Fight came out in 1989... Still, he could be based in part on Ventura... I'd go with that.

You mentioned Mick Fleetwood but not Dweezil Zappa? For shame! By the way, the DVD extras contain a surprisingly good serious documentary about the erosion of privacy rights, comparing the world of the movie to the world at the time of the DVD's release. It's even more relevant today.

13:45 Running Man did look more like a tv show than a movie by the way it was shot kinda like a high budget episode of the Outer Limits. I'm sure this hurt it's box office numbers quite a bit.

Sven Ole Thorsen has appeared in a number of Arnold's movies. The two of them knew each other from their competitive bodybuilding days and have been friends for a long time. Thorsen is actually one of Arnold's most frequent collaborator, serving in both acting and stunt man capacities in a number of his movies. Both he and Arnold also enjoy a good cigar.
