Actually, here is a good argument agasint. What you did, is you buffed them beyond what was reasonably shown. The Aliens were shown to be quite intellegent, however, it also showed, and heavily implied, that they are not very wise. With how they destroyed Mars and such combined with thier other failures. What you did is you gave them wisdom that was never shown, so realistically they would still falter.

The issue with the nuke is the same issue that most sci-fi uses of nukes have and even the issue why people don't understand why there's so many of them. Countries don't have so many nukes for overkill, it's to guarantee some get through no matter what. So like in this case, you don't launch one nuke, you launch thousands of them to overwhelm their drone. Sure it seems like it's helpless, but you don't know if that's a one off trick and they're hoping you just give up because unbeknownst to you, after the first one they're helpless. Independence day was annoying with this, like you're left wondering if any of the military leaders ever watched their kids play video games or watched Star Trek. If your enemy has a force field, you don't just hit them once and when the shield takes the hit, go "Oh I guess they're invincible". Na you hit them over and over and over and over until the shield finally fails. Then you keep hitting them to take them out after their shield fails. You give up nuking them, when you ran out of nukes.

The Martians of War Of The Worlds being destroyed by bacteria makes sense as an allegory, because they're the British Empire stomping over everyone outside Europe with superior technology and armies, but getting wrecked by cholera, typhoid, dengue fever, yellow fever and all sorts of other tropical diseases.

I always found it weird how so many alien invasion movies that they only invade in America or another country. Doesn't seem realistic for a alien race to just invade one part of a planet. I also find it super unrealistic how we could somehow win a war against an alien race that is capable of intergalactic travel and teleportation. If they're capable of that, think of their weapons. Honestly I would think they wouldn’t last or would need to have a writer who knows more about the military than most of hollywood writers have. I honestly would love to see how a space craft not designed for atmosphere go against an F-22 and having to learn how Radar works. Maybe see submarines surfacing firing ballistic missiles then diving below the surface. Imagine martian tanks or walkers going toe to toe. I almost want to write a script now

I think 2020 should make it obvious why we wouldn't survive any pandemic if it was both contiguous and deadly enough. We would do worse with pandemics today than 2019 because US state legislatures tied the hands of mayors and governors to initiate quarantine measures. Also, the anti-vaccine movement has been sustained by left and right-wing movements, Russians, The Pentagon, etc. The Pentagon spread propaganda to scare people away from Chinese vaccines in The Philippines while Russia promoted anti-vaccine propaganda only for its own people to swallow it.

Their genetic instability is their only real weakness. Any contact with a fatal or near fatal genetic trait makes them die quickly. Their 2nd or 3rd gens rot pretty badly in Earth's biosphere. They didn't prep for the ways our microbes interact with our bodies, so instead of living long lives, their hybrids die except for the original.

So what year was the movie supposedly set in? I only ask because I just noticed all of the military equipment is VERY old. I mean, the soldiers are carrying/using M14 rifles. The tanks are Shermans. The helicopters are UH-1 Hueys. It seems like the film is set somewhere in the 60s or 70s, but there are vehicles from the 80s/90s present. Maybe I just missed something, but I find these details bothersome. Also, I absolutely LOVED this movie when I was a kid. I even had some of the Martian action figures. And seeing James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) was kinda the icing on the cake, for me. Obviously the film is meant to be pretty silly and all, but I still believe it's terribly underrated. My favorite quotation to this day is still "Don't run, we are your friends." I haven't seen it in a while, so I think I'll watch it with my 12 year old. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it, too

Honestly, I highly doubt that we would've just said "this is fine" and accepted them as being normal beings. Maybe back when the movie was out, sure, this would be true, but if they came now, there's probably some fight to give. The US could fire way too many missiles. Sure, this could be mostly absorbed here and there, but you can still expect the occasional slip. But I don't assume that to be perfect. There's still many things they could easily do, being massively intelligent. I also highly doubt just using major horrifying events that happened in our existence, as extreme as they were, as a way to point out they're just anatomically different humans... would do very little. If they don't take it as a challenge to see who could genocide worse - Earth's humans, or Mars' aliens. Also yes, they have numbers. Not just explosives and machines that protect them from us doing much to them. They could easily be cloning themselves, too. Only way you could, though with great trouble, cause their own destruction is if they friendly fire into a huge mob of self-destruction. Then again, we're sort of expecting them to think Earth is worth visiting as it could be a bit much to get used to. Gravity, primarily, the temperature being different here and there, the spin of the planet causing days to be a bit much for them. I'm giving them a lot already, even as you've given them their part and we're saying they're intelligent enough for all that. But yes, Yodeling, dog whistles, heavy metal? All would've been eliminated *before* they came here. At least, if heads didn't pop while spying on us. (again, numbers, though most likely they figured this part out and have noise limiters/pitch limiters on their own devices).

Here's what I got to say between Quiet place and Fnuny Martian movie. In funny martain, there's no indication that they have a weakness to sound. It's more likely we'd be nearly wiped out by them, especially when Sound Kills Alien wasn't a trope. In Quiet shh movie, the aliens are literally giant ears. In a world that's supposed to be the exact same save for this alien 'invasion'. They had martian fuinny movie in their culture. How a majority of humanity was wiped because a common trope was never used is just bad writing.
