Another interesting fact about Back To The Future II AND III. You know how Minty said that 1989 was a big year for Michael J. Fox. Another thing that happened was the end of his TV series "Family Ties".Like BTTF 1, Fox was filming FT during the day, and BTTF P2 during the night. To give him some relief from the gruelling schedule, the 1955 footage was used, so that Fox wouldn't have to do as much filming for the second one, and not have to work off two hours sleep a night. FT finished up towards the end of the filming of BTTF Pt2, and then Fox was on set to film the 2015 scenes (which were filmed later) and then could be on set to do BTTF Pt 3 (that is why most of BTTF Pt3 is filmed in daylight, because Fox now could devote all his time to BTTF Pt 3, with FT finishing up, while the first two films mainly had Marty in night scenes, since he was filming FT during the day, and the BTTF films at night).

I guess I'm in my typical minority when I say this was also my favourite of the trilogy. Being made in the mostly pre-CGI era you could still go to a film and be left wondering "How the heck did they do that?". When I got this on VHS I nearly wore it out watching various bits on slow or pause to try and figure it out. My favourite bit is a long shot where the car comes flying down into the street, lands then people get out of it. Blew my mind, if you look carefully you can see how the car changes from a model to the real car as it goes behind a lamp post. Genius. My love of it is not really down to the story but to the ground-breaking motion control and split screen work which was so much more pains taking to do optically before digital.

@adrianbradley85132 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100% Minty, part 2 is also my favourite in the BTTF trilogy because it makes you use your brain with all the logic of changing the past to change the present. I thought the idea of using the sports almanac to bet on sports thus changing Biff's future was BRILLIANT and the best plot device in the whole trilogy. I remember reading WAY TOOOO much into the guy who gave Marty the letter from Doc Brown from 1885. I didn't realise that he was just a passing character who's name isn't even mentioned in the movie as far as I can recall.
@PixelatedH2O4 жыл бұрын
Old Biff's death is actually a paradox and helps the story to have been deleted. In what I've seen about the scene the death was due to him not existing to give himself the Almanac. By giving himself the book he never became a car detailer as we see at the end of BTTF. Therefore he almost definitely wouldn't have been at the cafe when Marty arrives and the hoverboard chase happens (the cafe probably wouldn't even exist). If he wasn't there, he wouldn't have realized the Delorean existed in Hill Valley 2015 so he wouldn't know he could time travel. Of course though, according to Doc Brown's own explanation later in the film about time travel, he would have still existed in HV 2015. His becoming a car detailer was already a part of the "prime" timeline and him giving himself the book created another timeline. Therefore the only way Old Biff would have died is if he was the Old Biff from the other timeline, which he wasn't.

I have to admit, I agree with Crispin Glover.
@jemofthe80s184 жыл бұрын
I always said the wealth wasn't Marty's, it was George's, he got everything he could have had all along because he stood up for himself and went and worked for what he wanted, the home decor could have been his gift to Lorraine by letting her pick everything, and Marty was stuck with his old memories and NONE of the new ones so how exactly was HE rewarded? For all we know he earned the truck with his allowance and odd jobs and it could've been an early or belated birthday gift. Love still conquered all for his parents and he hadn't even been trying to show them how much he cared about them, he was BOTHERED by having to help them get together and didn't even act like he CARED about them the whole movie. THAT'S what always bugged ME, I wish from the start he had been trying to help them be happier to no avail and having a hard time getting to even know them, so when he's in the past he takes advantage of his chance to BE friends with them and then in the new present he doesn't need to have his new self's GOOD memories because he already has his own.
@chindleymuffin4 жыл бұрын
Crispin Glover saw the ending in a different way to me. I always saw that life turned out better for all of the family, including Pete and his sister, I forgot her name. Pete is working in an office job, possibly as a manager, his sister looks successful and has a great love life. The whole place looks better than what they had at the start of the movie, where it looked like they were struggling financially to have a normal life. When you read some of the reviews at the time, it seemed everyone saw the McFlys as screw ups, even in other times.
@jemofthe80s184 жыл бұрын
Exactly! (The sister's name is Linda:)) Marty was the only one who DIDN'T get anything good since he doesn't have memories of his new self and we don't know if he even WILL, whether he'll vanish or just blend with his other self. I was glad for the ending where it shows that the McFlys HAD the potential for it all along but were too afraid to find out if they could get it. Nobody in the town understands that so they just call them screw-ups and slackers, just like in real life:(
@Scripture-Man4 жыл бұрын
I completely disagree with Crispin Glover. Prosperity, success, and money are all _good_ things. I have been both poor and rich, and it is quite obvious that my life was better when I was rich. Who wants to starve? Who wants to struggle? Who wants to be ill? Nobody. My life was so much more unpleasant when I didn't have a car, and had to sleep rough. Just because money can't buy deep spiritual fulfillment and inner peace, that doesn't mean it has no value. Mr Glover's views are naive. By the way, the answer to deep spiritual fulfillment and inner peace is not "love". It is JESUS CHRIST! Jesus said that He is "the Way, the Truth and the Life".

This is my favorite of the movies, but all three were utterly fantastic. I think the BTTF trilogy is drifting from classic film(s) territory into the realm of cultural importance a la the Goonies. Of the trilogy, this was my least favorite, though it was still a fun movie to watch. I'm probably in the serious minority in that the third one is my favorite, simply because as a teenager I loved spaghetti westerns and shows like Death Valley Days and Gunsmoke. Having ZZ Top in it was an added bonus.
