This is my all time favorite show, been a huge fan of The X-Files since I was 12 when it first aired in the early 90's, around late 1993, early 1994 in Australia, I own the entire series on Blu-ray and have purchased it multiple times on different formats, I have watched the entire series around 6-7 times and constantly love rewatching it, the writing, direction, acting performances, cinematography, editing, and music score are all top notch, every episode is like a mini movie.

We must be around the same age, X-files was one of the first shows I remember discussing with my classmates the next day at school. You make great points about the production quality. What I loved is how they could play with the format a little and it would still feel like X-files, you could have dark episode like 'Squeeze' and 'The host' and fun episodes like 'Bad Blood' which is my favourite. I also remember some great shots and amazing music in 'Triangle' such a playful episode.

@@emptymannull That's a major difference to TV then and TV now. Shows are quality, they keep people engaged from week to week, you you feel the anticipation for the next episode and look forward to it. Streaming has changed that. People will consume a season in a weekend. I'm guilty of doing it myself. But I'm also glad that I learned to appreciate anticipation too.

This subject has been coming up a lot lately. It's the same with movies. If something was good and it came on TV, you'd have to change your schedule to make sure you could watch it. Something like the original Indiana Jones movies are a great example. Then you could buy it on video. With DVD's it added depth with special features and commentaries. But fewer movies have special features with physical releases. Movies aren't good anymore. @@Paul_1971

Back then, if you missed the airing of a TV show, you missed it, unless you could find somebody who taped it on VHS. There was no on-demand streaming like today. So you didn't miss it, or programmed your VCR to tape it if you knew you were going to miss it. It was agony to be at the office on Monday and not able to join the conversations about the episode, so you really couldn't miss it. There was one week where I damn near cut my thumb off working with some power tools a few hours before X-Files air-time. My first thought was "Looks like I'm spending my Sunday in the emergency room", and the immediate next thought was "well I better program the VCR to tape it in case I don't make it back in time" lol

One of the first writers, directors and executive producers of the X Files was Vince Gilligan. He actually wrote the Home episode and went on to create another iconic tv show, Breaking Bad. The X Files had such an influence on ‘90’s pop culture that people would go out later on Friday nights, so they wouldn’t miss the X Files. Absolutely loved it and it still remains one of my top five favorite shows of all time! Great job Minty!

The X Files was my "go to" TV show. It had everything I like, the paranormal, plus whether they liked each other in real life or not, you have to agree that the chemistry between Mulder & Scully was fantastic! The X-files wasn't just IN the 90's..., the X-files WAS the 90's. I recently rewatched the whole show and even though I loved it at the time I enjoyed it on a whole new level and it was so fun spotting those guest stars' faces that are now so familiar. My favourite episode was Bad Blood, which you mentioned, but I never twigged that it was Luke Wilson. What I meant to say in your recent community post is that it's great that you show so much love for shows and movies that are nostalgic for so many of us, it's why we love your channel. But perhaps the algorithm is looking for newer and more topical references. The trouble is modern media is dire. We're all sending our love and thanks to you, we hope you keep going but most of all we hope that you enjoy doing what you do.

It was a massive success. We all loved it back then. Granted, as it often happens with series, it clearly went on for too long to keep up interest and good quality. Plus, actors run the risk of being stuck in their characters, and not move on with their careers. Snow's theme is a masterpiece, and still rocks today. it simply became synonymous with mystery, spooky, aliens, conspiracy, etc. The intro, both sonically and visually, pays homage to the old TV shows like - obviously - The Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, etc., especially the '80s version of TTZ. TRUST NO ONE! For real, not a joke.

So, so true. Always retire as a winner. I also watched the first 2 seasons again a few months ago, and could not help keeping on watching, unlike current series which bore me to death after 5 minutes ;)

It was a show with some amazing first few seasons, and to me it wasn't the same when they quit filming in Vancouver. Episodes like Gender Bender (1994) just had everything going for it with, with Mulder and Scully in those weird, rainy Canadian locales along with Mark Snow's eerie music. It was never quite the same when they changed locations.

Yep, I noticed that difference (though couldn't put my finger on it). It also made sense why they started having a lot of the stories set in the southern US regions, where they had actual desert and dry/arid areas for filming locations.

I loved the rainy cloudy mood of the early shows but it didn't always work. The one that makes me laugh to this day was Humbug it was the one with all the side show people and was set in Gibsonton Florida. I live about 10 miles form there and it looked nothing like the area let alone Florida. Best part was the ocean they showed had rock we don't have rocks here.

Interesting fact : the pilot episode of the Lone Gunman was a plot to uncover a conspiracy to hijack an airliner and fly it into the World Trade Center. The episode aired in March 2001, six months before the 9/11 attacks. The truth is out there.

Bishop Mark 😉you are truly a master of your craft! As you asked, at the top of my XFiles list are "Home," "Squeeze" and "Tooms." To answer your other recent question regarding which subject areas to cover, concentrate on more TV series and continue to do movies you haven't covered or pique your interest. Don't stop just because the algorithm is being naughty. New viewers who like your content will watch your old stuff; I sure did. And props to your theme music, I caught myself singing it while driving today ☺ See Ya!! 👋

I absolutely love this series! I even enjoyed the movies. I remember my mom & sister watching it back in the 90's & I actually asked them if it was real or a TV show 😂🤣 From then on I was hooked! I love conspiracy theories & this show was perfect!

I loved the X-Files as a kid, I remember the demon episode where he try’s to have a “normal” child but always ends up with a demon spawn then scares the mother nearly to death so she has a miscarriage until he meets another woman who is a demon as well only he doesn’t know it and she doesn’t play his games she knows them and just wants a child of her own. What always amazed me was how calm Moulder and Scully where when they finally figured out the plot of the show and it’s just everyday life for them.

Also, there were two video games based on the show. The PC/Mac/Playstation game "The X-Files Game" and the PlayStation 2 game "The X-Files: Resist or Serve". Both of which contain voice acting from the main actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Though in the first game you are playing as a character named Craig Willmore, who is assigned by Assistant Director Walter Skinner to investigate the disappearance of agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The second game you get to play as either Dana Scully or Fox Mulder.

I'd always hoped that Mulder and Scully would have hooked up and as luck would have it they'd hooked up a bit into the series/movies. I truly enjoyed every single Friday night I could remember the 9:00 o'clock episode then they'd also have the recap from the last week there before. I really liked the host episode I had liked that one also I'd really liked the episode squeeze and the continuation of that episode tools. My favorite guest was that being Peter Boyle. I have the whole series on blu-ray and I can't be happier with my X-Files set! The truth is still out there!

WATCHING IT AS A YOUNGSTER?! Thanks for making me feel old! I was in my early 20's. I had the same experience, though, as a youngster with Kolchak: The Night Stalker. I'm glad to hear my theory being confirmed behind it being part of the inspiration. My other theory is thst The Flintstones were inspired by The Honeymooners. Has that ever been confirmed? Great work, as always

Thank you Minty!! I've loved X-Files a long time, but during Covid I rewatched the entire series and became absolutely obsessed with Mulder and Scully. Or Sculder, as I discovered when I typed their names into KZbin. Dozens of homage sites came up, scenes of the two of them set to music, cuts from favorite episodes (mine is S5 E5: The Post Modern Prometheus). I read many comments on the chemistry between those two. Several people said that the relationship between Mulder and Scully was their role model, as it lasted 25 years and involves mutual respect. Many people know that it's all in front of the camera, but choose to believe otherwise anyway. All I know is the show died when they weren't together. Magic!

X Files is a great show. I grew up with vivid fond scary memories of a 1974 show called 'the Night Stalker' starring Darren McGavin, with Richard Matheson as head writer. It felt like a precursor to X Files in a few ways. A news reporter stumbling into myths and legends, no one believes him when he trys to prove their existance. I would love to see a 10 things video on this show.😮

One of the weirdest things about the show is that they used the same actors to play MULTIPLE minor roles. A guy would be a doctor with speaking lines in one episode and a military member with speaking lines in another and they just thought no one would notice. Like, "Oh, throw some glasses on and use your normal voice." casting.
